White County Tennessee Deed Book O, Page 122 James Knowles Adm'r of George Pirtle Dec'd Petition to Sell Slave Jacob State of Tennessee White County, Wednesday morning 9th June 1841. Court met pursuant to adjournment present the Honorable Abram Caruthers Esquire Judge &c James Knowles administrator of George Pirtle Deceased petition to Sell Slave. Expartee - Decree. Be it Remembered that the above cause came on further to be heard before the Honorable Court upon the interlocutory decree and Report of the Commissioners unexcepted to and in all things confirmed which Report is in the following words to wit: Report that the undersigned appointed Special Commissioner to Sell the Slave Jacob by the Enterlocutory decree made at the last term of this Court Reports that after advertising according to the direction in the Interlocutory Decree that he sold the said negro boy in said pleadings mentioned on a twelve months credit to Jacob Pirtle he being the highest and best bidder for the sum of nine hundred Dollars taking bond and security as required by said interlocutory decree to himself for the purchase money all of which is Respectfully submitted. James Knowles Commissioner when it appeared that the said Commissioner had sold said Slave Jacob to Jacob Pirtle according to the Direction of the Interlocutory Decree for the sum of $900 and had taken bond and security for the purchase money due twelve months from the sale it is therefore decreed that the title to said negro be divested and vested in said Jacob Pirtle and that said Executor collect the said purchase money for distribution pay the cost of this Suit and of the effects of Said Estate in his hands and be allowed the Sum of five Dollars for his Services as Commissioner in selling said Slave, and it is decreed accordingly and that Execution issue for the Collection of the same.
