After his parent's deaths, Francis took possession of the family's original farm of 127 acres. He appears on the 1704 Quit Rent Roll paying a tax of 3 shillings. By this time Francis' brother, Thomas, had relocated to Orange Co., VA., and brother, John, had moved 30 miles north to Spotsylvania Co., VA. Prior to 1740, Francis also relocated to Spotsylvania Co., settling near the town of Fredricksburg.
