James William or Jim as he was known enlisted on 27th November 1941 at Tottenham, NSW. army No. NX17027 Private. He was in the 38 Aust Works Company and the 33 L of L Salvage Section. He served for a total effective period of 1580 days which included 1514 days of active service in Australia including Darwin, NT.
Jim worked on the farm most of the time but also did some shearing. He used to bring the sheep in and check them over and move them into different paddocks when the grass was in short supply. He cut the burrs on the property and burnt them. There wasn't very many burrs on the property then. The last time I saw the farm there was Galvanized burr all over the front paddocks where it used to be free of burr.
