Todd Family DNA Project

The following files include the actual DNA data accumlated between 2004 and 2022 for over 300 Todd descendants who have been grouped into about 80 distinct family groups.  In the Final Report, we list each of the family groups and, within each family group, we list the various families shown to have the same or very similar DNA.   In some cases, these families have been shown to be descended from a specific common ancestor, solving a mystery that had previously stumped family historians for many years or decades. In other cases, the common ancestor has not been determined and may lie back in Ireland, Scotland or England. The Big Y male DNA test has been found to useful for showing branching of these related families back in the times before the earliest ancestor of our genealogical data.

In 2012, we added in the DNA results for the Irish and Scottish Todds, some of which we were able to link to each other and to the branches who migrated to America. See the Irish and Scottish sections of the Todd DNA pages for more detail. In 2019, we upgraded many samples to 67 markers and looked more closely at the similarities and differences between DNA patterns of different families. In 2022, we added the discoveries made possible by the "new" Big Y male DNA test protocol.
