Jane Stanley

Born at 10 a.m on the 15th of October 1843 in Egglescliffe, Durham, the daughter of William Stanley, a groom and his wife Hannah, formerly Allison. Baptised privately at Eaglescliffe Parish Church on the 24th of October 1843, the daughter of William Stanley, servant, and Hannah, of Eaglescliffe.

The marriage took place, at Teesdale Registry Office, on the 19th of August 1863, of Robert Donkin, 21 year old gardener, living Rokeby, father John Donkin, a groom and Jane Stanley, 20 years old, living Greta Bridge, father William Stanley, a groom. Witnesses were Jane Brown and Geo. C Lee.

Mary Hannah c1866. Baptised at Eaglescliffe Parish Church on the 10 June 1866, daughter of Robert Donkin, gardener and Jane, of Eaglescliffe.

John Henry c1867. Baptised at Eaglescliffe Parish Church on the 19 March 1867, the son of Robert Donkin, gardener, and Jane, of Eaglescliffe. John Henry Donkin, 1 year, of Eaglescliffe was buried at Eaglescliffe Parish Church on the 26 April 1869.

Jane died on the 25th of December 1922 at Westlands Road, Eaglescliffe, Stockton as the result of `arterio sclerosis and senile decay', aged 79 years. Her death certificate lists her as widow of Robert Burrell Donkin, platelayer for NE Railway. Jane's daughter in law, C Donkin, of Pear Tree Cottage, Eaglescliffe was present at the death.

Parish Registers for St John The Baptist, Eaglescliffe, Durham show the burial of Jane Donkin on the 28th of December 1922. Monumental Inscription reads-

In Loving Memory of
ROBERT BURRELL DONKIN
who died June 19th 1907
aged 65 years
also of JANE
beloved wife of the above
who died Decr. 25th 1922
aged 79 years
also ALICE MAUD
dear daughter of the above
who died January 31st 1943
Aged 68 years

 

 

Wills and Probate shows-

Donkin, Jane of 4 Westlands-road Eaglescliffe County Durham widow died 25th December 1922. Probate Durham 16th January to Alice Maud Donkin spinster and Robert Donkin nurseryman and florist. Effects £303 7s 11d.

 

*I have 11 children born to Jane and Robert. Son John Henry died in 1869 and Thomas died in 1875.
