Sarah Edgar Boddy

Sarah was born on the 25th of December 1888 at Albion Buildings, Northgate, Darlington, the daughter of Thomas Boddy and Mary Jane Barker.

She was baptised at St Hilda's  Church, Darlington on the 20th of January 1889.

Her father was tragically killed just eight days later.

 The 1891 census shows her mother at 12 Ann's Terrace, Darlington, employed as a domestic whilst Sarah was living with her newly remarried Grandmother, Harriet.

Sarah reverted to using the surname Barker when her mother married Thomas Firby in 1892.

Sarah was living at 29 Dodd's Street, Darlington when she married her cousin, Harry Barras, on the 16th of April 1910 at the towns registry Office. Witnesses were John Barras (Harry's brother) and Martha Firby (Sarah's half sister).

Sarah and Harry had three children -

On the 4th of April 1919, four days after the birth of Harry, Sarah died at The Borough Hospital, Darlington as the result of tuberculosis and influenzal pneumonia (childbirth). Her husband, Harry, was with her when she died.

Sarah was buried at Darlington's North Cemetery on the 8th of April 1919 - grave reference D SS 198. The ceremony was performed by the Reverend F Cowles.
