Just a little history on the name McCoy.
When I was researching the name McCoy, this is what I found.
I hope you enjoy it.

I've been researching my husband's McCoy line for sometime now and I believe I've become obsessed with them. They are so exciting. David comes from a long line of Pioneers, Indian Fighters and Scotish Highlanders. The name McCoy comes from the Highland Clan MacKay. Sometime after leaving Scotland the name was changed from MacKay to McCoy. The background for this page is the Blue MacKay Tartan. The Mottos for the Clan MacKay are "Manu-Forti"(With a strong hand) and "Bitren"(Be True - Be Valiant). The badge for the Clan is a hand holding a dagger.

The first record of the name was in 1326 when Gilchrist M'ay, progenitor of the MacKays of Ugadale, made a payment to the Constable of Tarbert. There is a MacKay Clan Museum in the town of Bettyhill in Highland County Scotland. This museum has been the church and cemetary for the Clan for over 500 years. Well enough of my little bits of trivia. On to the genealogy stuff. (But I hope you enjoyed it !)
