1. George1 Sinks was born in Germany circa 1735;1 he married Susanna (--?--) before 1771;2 he married Rachel Hoover (Huber) circa 1780; he married Mary Mast circa 1783; he died Apr 1819 in probably Montgomery Co., OH.1  He resided in Miami Co., OH, on 30 Nov 1799.3 He resided in Washington Co., PA, circa 1802. He resided in Miami Co., OH, on 31 Jul 1802.4 He attended a meeting in Westland Monthly Meeting (Society of Friends), Washington Co., PA, on 23 Jul 1803.5

Susanna (--?--) died circa 1779 (Last child b. 1779; husband's second marriage was ca. 1782).

"One of the early settlers of Randolph township was George Sinks, born in Germany in 1735. He emigrated to America, settling first in North Carolina but not liking it there, he removed to Washington County, Pennsylvania, then to Montgomery county, Ohio,in 1803. His movements have been traced through his removal certificates from one Friends' monthly meeting to another.

"On July 27, 1802, George Sinks requested a certificate to Westland monthly meeting, Washington county, Pa., from Back Creek church,Randolph county, N.C. This was approved and signed August 24, 1802. At Westland monthly meeting, Washington county, Pa., July 23, 1803, the certificate from Back Creek monthly meeting for George Sinks and his son Andrew was recorded and one bearing the same date for Mary Sinks and daughters Eve, Ann, and Sarah.

"The name of the first wife of George Sinks is not known. In the record of the death of the son Andrew (West Branch records) is given as the son of George and "R." Sinks. The second wife was Mary (Mast) Waggoner, daughter of John Mast Sr. and widow of John Waggoner Sr. She had one son, John Waggoner Jr., born 1775.

"George Sinks died April 1819, leaving a will dated January 28, 1818, and recorded in Montgomery county April 19, 1819 (Will Book A, p. 74), in which he names his wife Mary and the following children: Elizabeth Fouts, Susanna Fouts, Mary Hoover, Eva Yount, Nancy Sheets, Sarah Hoover, Jacob, Andrew, George, 'and my wife's son, John Waggoner.' A daughter, Catherine, probably died prior to the father's death as she is not mentioned in the will. Of these:

"Elizabeth Sinks, born October 10, 1771, died 1852, married in 1791 Michael Fouts (1770-1858). She came to Ohio from North Carolina in 1803 and settled on Big Twin Creek, German Township, Montgomery county. They had issue: Eli, who married Polly Schaeffer; Mary; Henry, who married Elizabeth Yount; Michael; Eva, who married first Enos Yount, second his cousin Solomon Yount; Susan; Elizabeth, who married Levi Berger; Jesse; Andrew; Aaron, who married Rachel Martindale; Daniel; Jacob; and Sarah.

"Jacob Sinks, born 1773, died October 9, 1846, married Mary Yount, daughter of Henry and Mary (Waymire) Yount; issue: Daniel, Anna, Susan, Jacob and Harvey.

"Susanna Sinks, born August 20, 1775, married in 1794 Solomon Byrkett of North Carolina. He was killed by the Indians in 1795 while scouting on Big Twin, leaving one son, Solomon. She married second Frederick Fouts and had issue: Sarah, Polly, Neah, Elizabeth, John, George, Eve, Susanna, Frederick and Catherine.

"Mary Sinks, born April 20, 1777, died 1830, married January 8, 1807, Daniel Hoover (his second wife; see Hoover article Dayton Journal), nephew of David and Daniel Hoover, early settlers of Randolph township and had issue: Mary; Sarah, who married Philip Woodhouse; Susan who married Isaac Newman.

"George Sinks Jr., born January 22, 1779, died February 21, 1847, married Sarah Plummer. She died July 13, 1841, aged 61 years. Both buried at Polk Church. They had issue: Mary, married William Dixon; Daniel; John, who married first Lydia Hutchens, second Julia Bear; Polly, married Charles Cartwright; Eliza, married David Wise; George, married Joanna Jay; Eli, married Senny Yount; Catherine, married William Quillan; Susan, married Henry Sheets.

"Andrew Sinks, born January 12, 1782, died December 3, 1869, married September 14, 1806, Amelia Yount, daughter of George and Rosanna (Waymire) Yount, born July 15, 1790, died January 22, 1872. Both buried Polk Church. They had issue: Elizabeth, who married William Sheets; Enoch, who married Catherine Waymire; George, who married Esther Mikesell; Frederick, married Mary Buchanan; Alexander, married Elizabeth Curtley; Henry, married Elsie Hollingsworth; Rosanna, married Andrew Sheets; Andrew Y., married Barbara Stockslager; Noah, married Mary Jackson; William, had three wives, Abigail Pearson, Sarah Pearson, and Caroline Kelly; Ira, married America Williamson; Jacob, who had four wives, Phebe Macy, Elizabeth Davidson, Clarissa Macy, and Elizabeth Cress.

"Eva Sinks, born November 12, 1784, died September 9, 1837, married December 22, 1806, Andrew Yount, son of Henry and Mary (Waymire) Yount, born October 3, 1785, died September 14, 1860. Issue: Daniel, Allen, John, Andrew, Mary, George, William, and Henry.

"Catharine Sinks, born August 12. 1789. No record.

"Anna or Nancy Sinks, born December 17, 1790, married, April 28, 1808, Jacob Sheets, son of Andrew Sheets, Sr., who died 1809 in Miami county.

"Sarah Sinks, born May 21, 1792, [married?] 1808, Andrew Hoover, son of Daniel Sr., born 1788, died 1863. They moved to Indiana in 1822. Issue: Abijah, George, Daniel, Hannah, Mary, Alexander, Jacob, Jane, Perry, Caroline."

Children of George1 Sinks and Rachel Hoover (Huber) were: Mary Mast married John Waggoner before 1783. She died after 1807.9 She resided in Washington Co., PA, on 23 Jul 1803.10

2. Susannah2 Sinks (George1) was born in Abbots Creek, Lexington Twp., Davidson Co., NC, 20 Aug 1775;1,15 she married Solomon Byrkett 1794;1 she married Frederick Fouts after 1794; she died after 1794.  She resided in Miami Co., OH, on 30 Aug 1794.16

Solomon Byrkett died in 1795.1

3. George2 Sinks (George1) was born 22 Jan 1779;17 he married Sarah Plummer; he married Jane Smith 4 Nov 1841;18,19 he died 21 Feb 1847 in Miami Co., OH, at age 68;17,20 his body was interred in Miami Co., OH; his will was probated in Miami Co., OH, 28 Feb 1848.21  He was a miller.

Sarah Plummer was born in North Carolina on 25 Aug 1780.17,22 She died on 13 Jul 1841 at age 60.23 Her body was interred in Miami Co., OH.

Mary3 Sinks (George2, George1) was born in Rowan Co., NC, 17 Sep 1800;20,31 Conflicting evidence states that she was born 27 Sep 1800;17 she married William Dickson in probably Montgomery Co., OH, 3 Apr 1817;32 she died 17 Feb 1864 in Randolph Co., IN, at age 63;17 her body was interred in Union Cemetery, Randolph Co., IN.

William Dickson was born in SC on 3 Jun 1798.33,34 He married Thursa Dye in Randolph Co., IN, on 8 Mar 1865.35 He died on 29 Dec 1883 in Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO, at age 85.36,37 His body was interred in Dickson (Bethany) Cemetery, Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO. He was move in 1829 (From Miami Co., OH to Randolph Co., IN).38 He bought property in Putnam Co., MO, on 10 Oct 1859 (Certificate No. 14116, 40 acres, filed in Milan, MO).39 He was listed as a household member living with Thomas Wellington Reece in the 1860 Census in Randolph Co., IN.31 William was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO.40 He was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO.41

5. George W.4 Dickson (Mary3Sinks, George2, George1) was born in Miami Co., OH, 1 Feb 1820;37,42 he married Elizabeth Delk in Greenville, OH, 4 Feb 1839;43 he died 8 Sep 1897 at age 77;17 his body was interred in Dickson (Bethany) Cemetery, Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO.

A. History of Adair, Sullivan, Putnam, and Schuyler Counties, Missouri ;Chicago: Goodspeed Publishing, 1888, pp. 1057-1059:

"... Judge George W. Dickson, a native of Miami County, Ohio, born February 1, 1820. His father, William Dickson, was born in South Carolina, June 3, 1798, and his mother, Mary (Sinks) Dickson, was born in North Carolina, in September, 1800. George W. Dickson spent his youth in his native county, and is a self-made and self-educated man, having become the latter almost entirely after reaching manhood. He was married in Darke County, at Greenville, near Old Treaty, where Gens. Wayne and Harrison treated with the Indians. Elizabeth Delk became his wife February 14, 1839. She was the daughter of Ethelred Delk, a soldier in the war of 1812. Her birthplace was in Preble County, Ohio, where she was born May 4, 1821, and she was reared in that and Darke County, Ohio. Directly after their marriage they moved to Randolph County, Indiana, and eighteen months later, in November, 1840, came to Missouri, crossing the Mississippi River on the day Harrison was elected President. They spent one year in Grundy County, and about the same length of time in Livingston County. In the fall of 1843, they moved to Linn County (now Sullivan), and in 1848 came from there to Putnam County (then Dodge), locating in Jackson Township. Previous to this time Mr. Dickson had served as treasurer of the county, and after coming to Putnam County, he served sixteen years in succession as justice of the peace. He was the second county judge of the county. During the war, in 1862, he was appointed probate judge, and served two years in that capacity. He is now identified with the Greenback party, although formerly he was a Democrat, and during the war was identified with and worked for the Republicans. He located upon his present place in April, 1853, entering 120 acres of land. He now owns 100 acres, forty in timber land and the remainder in meadow and plow. He has raised a family of eight children, six of whom are living: William Dickson, married and in Wilson Township; Henry C., married and living in Jackson Township; Elizabeth E., widow of E. Hodson, of Smith County, Kas.; Ann V., wife of Joseph F. Coppock, of Kansas. Those deceased are Alvina, wife of James L. Johnson, died April 12, 1863, leaving two children, and Charles, who died in September, 1862, in Helena, Ark. He was a soldier in the late war, and served in the Seventh Missouri Cavalry. Judge Dickson became a mason in 1863, and belongs to the Unionville, Missouri lodge. He is engaged in the nursery business, in which he embarked about 1876, and now has about 15,000 trees of different kinds of fruit. His nursery is known as the 'Star Nursery.'"

b. Historical Atlas of Putnam County, Missouri, p. 12 - Under the heading "List of Patrons," lists for Township 65N, Range 20W, (1) H.C. Dickson (son of George W. Dickson), Section 15, occupations as farmer, justice of the peace, and carpenter, born in Sullivan County, Missouri, settled in Putnam County in 1847; and (2) George W. Dickson, Section 23, occupations as farmer and millwright, born in Miami County, Ohio, and settled in Putnam County in 1847. p. 13 - "George W. Dickson, Unionville, Missouri. Farmer and Millwright. Also proprietor of 'Star' Nursery, located 8 miles southwest of Unionville on the Juddtown and Unionville road, where a large supply of first-class nursery stock will be kept constantly on hand. Call and examine my stock."

c. History of Adair, Sullivan, Putnam, and Schuyler Counties, Missour (Chicago: Goodspeed Publishing, 1888): p. 426 - "In the south part of Jackson Township, the following individuals settled early: ...George W. Dickson..." p. 422 - "The Old Settlers Association: .the first meeting was held August 26, 1882, at the grove near Petty's mill, in Liberty Township. A permanent organization was then effected by the election of the following officers: J. J. Petty, president, and one vice-president from each township; ...George W. Dickson, Jackson;..."

d. Regarding the Probate Court, "...S.A. John, who served until 1863, when he removed to Oregon. G. W. Dickson was appointed to fill the vacancy, and served until 1864.". ( History of Adair, Sullivan, Putnam, and Schuyler Counties, Missouri ;Chicago: Goodspeed Publishing, 1888, p. 482).

e. Ebenezer Tucker, in History of Randolph Co., IN (Chicago, IL: Kingman Bros, 1882, p. 466), indicates he was the proprietor of a 'wagon shop.' George moved in 1847 (from Sullivan Co., MO to Putnam Co., MO).42 He was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census in Dodge Co., MO.44 He bought property in Putnam Co., MO, on 1 Apr 1856 (Certificate No. 3921, 40 acres, filed in Milan, MO).39 He bought property in Putnam Co., MO, on 1 Sep 1856 (Certificate No. 7089, 40 acres, filed in Milan, MO).39 He was listed as the head of a family on the 1860 Census in Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO (Occupation - millwright).45 George was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO.46 He was a witness at John Andrew Dickson and Laura Rebecca Browning's wedding in Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO, on 3 Sep 1874 (Married by Reverend John D. Humphreys at the home of W. H. Gaddis (half-brother of the bride)).47,48,49 He was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO.50 George applied for a military pension on 15 Aug 1892 (applied for and was granted a pension of $12.00 per month, based on the Civil War service of his son, Charles Dickson).51

Elizabeth Delk was born in Preble Co., OH, on 4 May 1821.52,53,54 She died on 26 Jul 1892 at age 71.53 Her body was interred in Dickson (Bethany) Cemetery, Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO. She was listed as a household member living with George W. Dickson in the 1860 Census in Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO (Occupation - millwright).45 She was listed as George W. Dickson's wife on the 1880 Census in Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO.50 Elizabeth applied for a military pension on 19 Feb 1892 (applied for and was granted a pension of $12.00 per month, based on the Civil War service of her son, Charles Dickson).51

Thomas Wellington Reece was born in New Castle Co., DE, on 3 Jul 1814.57,58,31,17 He died on 5 Aug 1877 in near Altoona, Wilson Co., KS, at age 63.17 His body was interred in near Altoona, Wilson Co., KS. Son of John and Susanna Hagner Reece. Biographical sketch appearing in A Biographical Directory of the Indiana General Assembly, Volume 1 (1816-1899) (Indianapolis: Select Committee on the History of the Indiana General Assembly, 1980, p. 364): "REECE, THOMAS W. HOUSE, 1865 (RANDOLPH). Born July 14, 1814, New Castle County, Delaware. Married Elizabeth Dickson, 1839 (5 children). Universalist, spiritualist. Moved to Illinois in 1838; to Randolph County, Indiana in 1839; and to Kansas in 1876. Stonecutter, 1 year; farmer. Whig; Republican; Greenback. Randolph County treasurer, 1844-50. Died August 5, 1877, Altoona, Kansas."  He was listed as the head of a family on the 1860 Census in Randolph Co., IN.31

7. Andrew Jackson4 Dickson (Mary3Sinks, George2, George1) was born in Ohio 6 Aug 1831;60 he married Delitha A. Butler in Randolph Co., IN, 26 Dec 1849;35 he died 7 Aug 1901 at age 70;17 his body was interred in Union Cemetery, Randolph Co., IN.  He was a blacksmith in Windsor, IN.61 He bought property in Indiana on 10 Apr 1849.62 He served in the military circa 1861 (Co. E, 147th Indiana Infantry). He was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Stony Creek Twp., Randolph Co., IN.63

Delitha A. Butler was born in Virginia in May 1834.64 She died on 18 Sep 1916 at age 82.17 Her body was interred in Union Cemetery, Randolph Co., IN. She was listed as Andrew Jackson Dickson's wife on the 1880 Census inStony Creek Twp., Randolph Co., IN.63

"Wm. Dickson Dead -

"The subject of this sketch, Wm. Dickson, was born near Jackson's Corners in Sullivan County, Mo., Jan 6, 1843, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Geo. E. Miller, east of this city, Sunday afternoon, Sept. 1, 1918, at the age of 75 years, 7 months, and 26 days.

"On Sept. 8, 1862, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary J. Boss, and to them thirteen children were born, namely: An infant daughter and son, Joseph, preceded the father in death; the living children being Mrs. I. V. Casteel of Lemonville, MO; John H. Dickson of Linn, Kans., Mrs. Jas. Kelley of Alva, Okla., Geo. W. Dickson of Washington, KS, Mrs. I. D. McVey of Alva, Okla., Wm. I. Dickson of Newtown, S. B. Dickson of Agra, Okla., Mrs. Miles Dickson of Lemonville, Mo., H. M. Dickson of Grainfield, Kans., T. A. Dickson of Kansas City, and Mrs. Geo. E. Miller of Newtown.

"Uncle William Dickson served about three and one half years in the Missouri militia during the civil war and was honorably discharged for disability. He was quite proud of his record in this conflict and was one of the members who never drew a pension for the services he so earnestly gave to his country.

"Until a few months ago he had been in his usual rugged and vigorous health, but when the break came his vitality was soon sapped and the end was considered very near. All that medical skill and tender care could do could not stay the hand of death, and on Sunday afternoon the spirit took its flight to the unknown world, leaving eleven children and numerous grand children and other relatives to mourn its departure.

"Interment was made in Bethany cemetery on Monday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. J. A. Newton in the presence of a large number of friends and relatives.

"The sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved children and relatives in their hour of sorrow"

Mary Jane Boss was born in Indiana on 20 Oct 1845.75 She died on 10 Aug 1907 in Unionville, Putnam Co., MO, at age 61 ('Gangrene of the Feet').75 Her body was interred in Dickson (Bethany) Cemetery, Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO. She was listed as a household member living with Solomon Boss in the 1860 Census in Union Twp., Putnam Co., MO. 76,77

Henry Clifford5 Dickson (George4, Mary3Sinks, George2, George1) was born in Sullivan Co., MO, 4 Oct 1844;37,42 he married Susan Clementine Goodrich McClure in Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO, 18 Apr 1867;79 he died 31 Dec 1919 in Kirksville, MO, at age 75; his body was interred in Dickson (Bethany) Cemetery, Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO.

History of Adair, Sullivan, Putnam, and Schuyler Counties, Missouri. Chicago, IL: Goodspeed Publishing, 1888, pp. 1057-1059: "Henry C. Dickson, the immediate subject of this sketch, came to Putnam County, Mo., with his parents, when a small boy, where he grew to manhood and received a common-school education. July 11, 1861, he enlisted with the First Missouri Cavalry as a private. He participated in the fights at Blue Mound, Mo., Snye Hills, Lone Jack, Prairie Grove, Ark., Van Buren, Ark., Clarendon, and Little Rock. Near Fayetteville he as taken prisoner. He also participated in several skirmishes, and was mustered out at Little Rock, September 13, 1865, at that time being corporal of Company I, First Missouri Cavalry. He returned home in 1865, and then spent a year in Indiana, where he learned the carpenter's trade. He then returned to Putnam County in 1867, and in April of that year married Susan C. McClure, daughter of Arthur McClure of Putnam County. Mrs. Dickson was born in Greenbrier County, Va., and was reared and educated in her native State. In September, 1883, Mr. Dickson went with a team and his family to Eureka Springs, Ark., where he remained a year on account of his wife's health. He has been engaged in the carpentering business for many years, and has contracted for and build many county bridges, school houses, etc. In connection with this he has wored a farm of 193 acres. He was a strong Republican until the organization of the Greenback party, when he joined its ranks. He has served as justice eight years in succession, having first been elected to that office in 1869. In his family are Frances E., Ethred D., Arthur W., Nancy E., Charles E., and Virgil L. Mr. Dickson is a member of the G.A.R. post at Xenia. He is this year engaged in the manufacture of a kiln of brick (100,000) for his own and market use." He moved in 1847 (from Sullivan Co., MO to Putnam Co., MO).42 He was listed as a household member living with George W. Dickson in the 1860 Census in Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO (Occupation - millwright).45 He served in the military in Missouri on 11 Jul 1861 (7th Missouri Cavalry). Henry was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO.80 Elizabeth Anne ("Betsy Ann") Ward and Isaac Newton McVay were married by him inJackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO, on 25 Jan 1874.81 He was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO.82 Henry applied for a military pension in Putnam Co., MO, circa 1888.83

Susan Clementine Goodrich McClure (Daughter of Arthur McClure and Frances R. Casebolt) was born in Greenbriar, WV, on 20 Dec 1849.37 She died on 15 Apr 1925 in probably Putnam Co., MO, at age 75.17 Her body was interred in Dickson (Bethany) Cemetery, Jackson Twp., Putnam Co., MO.
