Crockleford School

Crockleford School which was also known as 'The Old Mission' was built by the Rebows in about 1832 for the children of agricultural workers. It was situated at Chyme Wood, Crockleford Hill within the boundaries was Ardleigh Parish. The school supported by Hector Rebow esq. and Lady Georgianna Rebow. could educate about 30 boys & girls. The School closed in the 1890s and was taken over by the Church of England as a mission chapel until its demolition in the 1970s. Miss. Susanna Chandler (born 1814, Wivenhoe, Essex) was school mistress between at least 1865 and 1885.
