Text:   7 May 1897, I, Thomas Phelps of the County of Madison and state of Kentucky do state upon oath, that I heard from the lips of my great aunt, Lucy Phelps Brashear, that she was with her father, Thomas Phelps and his family, of which my grandfather, George Phelps (1757-1803) was a member in the Fort at Boonesborough, and that she was in the Fort at that time, that Boone and Calloway's daughers were captured by the Indians. I recall distinctly her story of their recovery, and the way in which they were traced by those who went in pursuit of them. I furthermore state that my great Aunt Lucy Phelps Brashear was a woman of sound mind and undoubted veracity." signed; Thoms Phelps.
