Princeton Union, Oct 12, 1911
Mrs. A.D. Jesmer of Park Rapids died on Friday, October 6, at St Mary's hospital, Minneapolis, where she was taken about a month previous for medical treatment. The cause of her death was attributed to pemphigus, a malady which is very uncommon. She was first taken sick on June 5 and gradually grew worse notwithstanding the fact that several of the very best physicians were consulted. Her sufferings were intense but she bore then to the end without complaint.
The remains were brought to Princeton and from here conveyed to Greenbush, Mrs. Jesmer's old home, where services were conducted in the Catholic church on Monday morning by Rev. Father Levings, and the interment was in the Greenbush Catholic cemetery. The funeral was attended by a large number of friends and relatives and the floral offerings were beautiful and profuse, showing the high esteem in which the good woman was held.
Mrs. A.D. Jesmer, whose maiden name was Juliann Robideau, was born in Franklin county, New York, on May 26, 1848. She came to Minnesota in 1865, with her parents, and first settled in St Paul, where she remained two years, when the family moved to Princeton. Shortly after she went to Greenbush, where her father took up a claim, to reside. On September 9, 1868, she was married to A.D. Jesmer by Rev. Father Murray (sic Maurer) of Dayton at the home of William Carmody in Princeton. With her husband she resided in Greenbush until 1882, then moved to Foreston and lived there until 1895, when she and her husband took up their abode at Park Rapids. She is survived by an aged mother, Mrs. Catherine Robideau, Deer Park, Wash.; three brothers, Louis Robideau, Greenbush; Joseph Robideau, Deer Park, Wash.; and Henry Robideau, Elk, Wash.; Peter Robideau, Deer Park, Wash.; and two sisters, Mrs. E.E. Whitney, Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Caleb Crook, Deer Park, Wash.
Among the relatives and friends who attended the funeral from out of town were Mrs. Gakski, (sic) Mrs. Aslin (sic), and Mrs. Craig, Minneapolis; Mrs. Davey, Chicago; F.T.P. Neumann and wife, Mr. Lemay and Mrs. Frank Judkins, Foreston.
Mrs. Jesmer was one of the kindest women who ever lived - a woman whom to know was to love and respect. She was a christian in the true meaning of the word, ever ready to assist her neighbors in the time of trouble- to help the needy and comfort the sick. While her taking away has caused much sorrow to her relatives and dear friends, they know that she has gone to a home where suffering abideth not.

July 5, 1894 Princeton Union Mr. N.E. Jesmer is to be commended for his public spiritedness in giving to Princeton what it has long needed - a first-class opera house. The new opera house would be a credit to a place four times as large as Princeton.

Jesmer's Opening N.E. Jesmer's magnificent new store was crowded all day and evening last Saturday. The interior of the store was tastefully decorated with ferns, flowers and evergreens; an orchestra of five pieces discourated sweet music at intervals, throughout the day and until midnight, and free lemonade was dispensed to all who wished to partake. Although an immense business was transacted, Mr. Jesmer and his efficient and genteel assistants exerted themselves to make it pleasant for all callers and succeeded admirably. In the evening the brilliantly lighted store presented an imposing appearance and almost every woman in town, arrayed in her finest, was present. Mr. Jesmer has reason to feel well pleased with his grand opening, and it must be a source of great satisfaction to him to know that he is so kindly regarded by the people of Princeton and vicinity.

FINEST BLOCK AT PRINCETON BURNED
The article tells of the fire - supposedly electrical in nature - that burned down the Jesmer Operahouse block at 130am. Over $50K loss in the building & the mercantile stock. The fire started in the attic, which had been unused until earlier that evening when the "home talent drama" had been put on. At the time of the fire it was very windy, and snow was flying everywhere.

JESMER’S OPERA HOUSE: On Saturday morning, February 2, 1907, at about 1:30 a fire was discovered issuing from the cupola of the Jesmer Opera House and an alarm was immediately turned in. How long the fire had been burning or the cause of its origin is impossible to determine, but it is believed that it started between the ceiling and roof near the main chimney. At the time of the fire a strong wind was blowing and it was therefore impossible for the fire department to check the flames. With great rapidity the fire spread and consumed the whole building, the most capacious mercantile establishment in town. L.G. Prescott also conducted a jewelry business in the store. Some of the goods in his emporium were saved, but it was impossible to remove a very large amount in consequence of the fierce heat.
N.E. Jesmer’s block was one of the costliest in the county. It was constructed in a very substantial manner and had heavy firewalls. Had it not been for this protection it is safe to say that many other buildings would have been wiped out?- "1881 – 1969. A Complete History of the Princeton Volunteer Fire Department" Princeton, Minn.
