History of Upper Mississippi Valley, publ 1881, states: "ALEXANDER DE SHAW was born in the province of Ontario, Canada, on the 20th of May, 1838. Both his father and grandfather visited this section of the country at a very early date; the latter spending twenty-two years in the employ of the Fur Company, coming as early as 1800. When the subject of this sketch was an infant his parents moved to New York, where he was reared to agricultural pursuits, remaining till 1871, when he came to this township and located his present farm. He has held a number of local offices, and since 1875, has been Assessor of the town. The marriage of Mr. De Shaw with Miss Eliza A. Grow occurred on the 2d of March, 1859. Of ten children, the result of this union, eight are living."

Death of Mrs. Eliza Deshaw
Mrs. Eliza Deshaw, who has been very ill at her home in Greenbush the past two months with Brights disease, died Wednesday morning. The funeral was held at the Greenbush Catholic church this forenoon at 10 o'clock, Rev. Fr. Livings officiating. The interment was in the Greenbush cemetery.
Mrs. Eliza Deshaw was born in Cornwall, Ontario, August 25, 1830. March 2nd, 1859, she was married at Hogansburg, N.Y., to Alexander DeShaw. In May 1871 they moved to Minnesota and located on the land that they made their homestead, and on which they lived until death called them away.
Eight children, three boys and five daughters, were born to Mr. and Mrs. DeShaw. All are living except Mrs. James Burke who died at Milaca last March. The boys are John C., William L., and Sidney J. DeShaw, all of Greenbush, while the daughters are Mrs. P.S. Robideau of Gilman, Mrs. Geo. Lathrop of Grand Rapids, Mrs. J.O. Winton of Duluth, and Mrs. W.L. Maddy of McGregor, Minn.

Nelson Anthony Grow

History of the Upper Mississippe Valley: NELSON A. GROW was born on the 14th of November, 1841, in Franklin county, New York, which was his home until coming to Minnesota in 1869. Came directly to this place, and now owns a farm of two hundred acres. Mr. Grow has served the town as Supervisor three years, and for the past two years has been Treasurer. Miss Adaline (sic) Jesmer became his wife on the 3d of July, 1864, and eight children have been born to them.

In the St Patricks record there is baptism record for an Alfred LeGrow, with the same birthdate as Nelson, but no record for Nelson. Possible name change.

Mrs. N.A. Grow Succumbs to Attack of Paralysis at Greenbush on Friday, August Third
Mrs. N.A. Grow died at her home in Greenbush on Friday morning, August 3, at 6:30 from the effects of a paralytic stroke sustained on the morning of the previous day. Mrs. Grow was 63 years of age on July 19 last. The funeral services were conducted in the Greenbush Catholic church on Sunday morning by Rev. Father Levings, who delivered a most impressive and eloquent oration.
Mrs. Grow was born in Franklin county, New York, in 1843, Her maiden name being Adaline Jesmer. She was married July 3, 1864, and came, with her husband, to Minnesota in the spring of 1869. Her husband died in 1897. There were four sons and six daughters born of the union, all of whom, with the exception of John, are living. The survivors are Charles and Adolphus E., Greenbush; L.N., Princeton; Mrs. Alexander Belair, Blue Hill; Elizabeth, Colorado Springs; Mrs. John Zimpel, Mrs. Jas. Deshaw, Gertrude and Adele, Grenbush (sic).
Mrs. Grow was a kindly, God-fearing lady- a devout member of the Catholic church. She was ever ready to render assistance to a neighbor in sickness or relieve the wants of the poor. She was highly esteemed by a large number of both young and old who will greatly miss her genial personality.
The pallbearers were: Owen Bracken, Greenbush; Daniel McCuaig, Milaca; Louis Plumondore, George McFarland, Wm. Orton, Princeton; H.C. Whittier, Greenbush.
Among the relatives from out of town who attended the obsequies were Mr. and Mrs. A.D. Jesmer, Park Rapids; Mrs. Gagacki, Mrs, Aslen (sic), Minneapolis; Miss Elizabeth Grow, Colorado Springs.
