BROUGHTON, GEORGE

George Broughton, b. Lincolnshire, Eng., 1824, where be was raised and educated.

He came to Minto Township in 1865, and purchased 150 acres, lot 15, con. 12, upon which he settled, clearing the farm and becoming one of the most respected and influential citizens of the township.

While he has never sought municipal honors, he held the office of School Trustee for over twenty years. He is a consistent member of the Methodist church, and in polities a staunch Liberal.

He m. Sarah Mathewson. Issue: Mrs. William Gordon, Edward, Mrs. Thomas Kerr, Joseph, George H., John and Annie. George H. is on the old homestead, where he carries on mixed farming, making a specialty of thoroughbred Hereford cattle. He is an energetic and progressive citizen; is School Trustee and takes an active interest in local affairs. He m. Isabella MeEachern, of the pioneer Minto family of that name
