CORAM, J. B.

J.B. Coram proprietor and publisher of the Drayton Advocate, is a son of George Coram and Emily (Glanville) Coram, of West Luther, who were both born in Cornwall, England, and came to Canada, settling in Weston in 1849. J.B. Coram was educated at the Rockwood Academy and Barrie Collegiate Institute, and in 1876 commenced teaching school in Maryborough, and later taught in West Garafraxa. He continued teaching until 1883, when, he went to Australia, where he remained until the fall of 1885, at which time he returned, to Canada and started the Fergus Advocate, which he ran for four years, when he removed the plant to Drayton, and established the Drayton Advocate, which he has ever since successfully ran in connection with the only job printing establishment in Drayton. Mr. Coram has taken a leading part in the affairs of Drayton from the time he came there. He was a member of the School Board from the first and has served in the council for a number of years. He is a Recording Steward in the Methodist church, and in politics is an Independent. The Advocate has a deservedly large circulation, and is the only newspaper published in Drayton. He married Louisa, daughter of the late Francis Cassidy, of Fergus. Issue: Myrtle, Willa and Lizzie.
