Listed below are the members of my family who have served our country, including some who gave all.

This web site is dedicated to their memory and their sacrifice.

The list is long, but there are several items that I am particularly proud of:

Both my maternal and paternal ancestors fought at the historic Battle of King's Mountain on October 7, 1780. Joseph Logan, my maternal 4th g-grandfather, fought in the battle, as did Nicholas Fain, my paternal 6th g-grandfather. Nicholas's son, Ebenezer Fain, my 5th g-grandfather, also fought in the Battle of King's Mountain. All fought for the Patriots' side. With roughly 1,000 participants on each side, the Battle of King's Mountain is regarded by many historians to be the turning point of the American Revolution.

Then there is my cousin Trumon Meyer, who left his home in Oklahoma in 1943 to suffer through the hell of the tree bursts in the Hurtgen Forest, and to cross the historic Ludendorff Bridge over the Rhine at Remagen in his trusty jeep the day after the bridge was captured. He was awarded the Bronze Star for combat heroism, but is most proud of his CIB - Combat Infantryman Badge. I was fortunate enough to return with Trumon to Germany in May of 2002. The trip was two-fold: to visit the historic villages around Bramsche in Lower Saxony from which the Meyer family hails, and to retrace Trumon's route through Germany in WWII. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

And continuing this long history of service to our country is my nephew Jeremy Bell, who fought in Iraq with the 101st Airborne, but is now safely back home with us.

Duggan, Don Roger - b. 1930 - Navy Corpsman with Marines in Korea and Viet Nam

Fain, Nicholas - b. 1730 - (my 6th G-Grandfather) Fought for the Patriots in the American Revolution, including the Battle of King's Mountain, where family legend says that all five of his sons fought with him. Most current rosters of the Battle include Nicholas, Samuel, John, and Ebenezer.

Fain, Ebenezer - b. 1762 - (my 5th G-Grandfather) Son of Nicholas, fought for the Patriots in the American Revolution, including the Battle of King's Mountain, where he was wounded in the leg. Ebenezer's Pension Application (# R3421)

Fain, Eugene Howard "Jack" - b. 1926 - Served in the Navy in WW II

George, Sgt. Robert L. - b. 1924 - A-1-10, Second Marine Division in WW II. He took part in harrowing amphibious landings at Tarawa, Tinian, Guadalcanal, and Saipan, which he details in his excellent book "Too Young to Vote". Read it, and you will understand why we can never repay to these men what we owe them.

Hampton, Jim - b. 1920s - Served in the Marines in WW II

Hays, James Monroe - b. 1833 - (my GG-Grandfather) Served in Co. F, 20th Georgia Infantry in the Army of Northern Virginia during the Civil War. Enlisted July 9th, 1861 as a private, and later rose to Sergeant. He fought in many of the major engagements of the war, including 2nd Manassas, Sharpsburg, Fredricksburg, Gettysburg, Chickamauga, The Battle of the Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, and Cold Harbor, just to name a few. James was in for the duration of the war, and is listed on the Prisoner of War roles of the Army of Northern Virginia when Lee surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse at the close of the war.

Stoneham, Henry John - b. 1763 - (my 4th-G-Grandfather) Cpl. Stoneham of Virginia fought for the Patriots in the American Revolution

West, Benjamin - b. 1747 - (my 5th G-Grandfather) Served as a Private and Sargeant in Captain William Smith's company in the Spartan Regiment, South Carolina Calvary, commanded by Colonel John Thomas. He also served under Colonel Thomas Brandon's Regiment, 56 SC Militia. Benjamin was captured and killed by a band of Patrick Ferguson'sTory Raiders in the summer of 1780. Ferguson met his own fate at the Battle of King's Mountain a few month's later.

West, James Monroe - b. 1847 - Co. A., 14th Georgia Cavalry Reg. in the Civil War

Yielding, Howard G., Jr. - b. 1921 - Graduated from West Point. He was a B-29 Pilot based in Saipan in WW II. He was killed in action on February 10, 1945 when his plane was forced to ditch in the Pacific Ocean 30 miles from Saipan after it was damaged and ran out of fuel.
