Uriah ASKEW(62) died about 1806 in
Hancock Co,GA. He was born prior 1769 in prob Pitt Co,NC. Per Askew (1988):
"Uriah Askew was born by 1769 probably Pitt County. Letters of administration on his estate was granted 7 April 1806 Hancock County, Georgia. Married about 1794-1795 Hancock Co to Saleta Jernigan, daughter of Needham Jernigan and Saleta Burch. This is probably the Saleta Askew who married William Meggs in 1810 Hancock County. Uriah removed to Georgia from Edgecombe County c1793/1794.
He bought land in Edgecombe County 12 Dec 1789 (Deed Book 5, pages 508,468). He was in the 1790 census of Edgecombe County, Halifax District, page 57. He sold land in Edgecombe County (Deed Book B page 318) 20 January 1793. His is probably when he left North Carolina for Georgia. He was on the Tax Digests of Hancock County, 106th District in 1794, 1795, 1796, 1802, 1803 and 1805. In 1805 he drew two blanks in the Georgia Land Lottery.
He was on the Militia Muster Roll of Washington County, GA in 1793.
Hancock County Deed Book L-120 shows that Uriah bought 100 acres lying on the south side of the south fork of Beaverdam Creek for 45 pounds sterling from Edmund Butler on 16 January 1798. Recorded 25 May 1815.
Deed Book L-520 - James Lloyd sells to Uriah Askue 87 1/2 acres on the south fork of the Beaverdam of Ogechee. Part of an original James Lloyd grant. Dated 27 December 1802, recorded 29 May 1818. $240.
1806, 1808 and 1812 - tax digest Hancock County with Hardy Jernigan as the Administrator of his estate.
Court of Ordinary Minutes 1799-1817, page 204 of Hancock County show that on 7 April 1806, Letters of Administration were granted to Salety Askew, Josiah Askew and Hardy Jernigan in the estate of Uriah Askew, deceased."

James ASKEW(62) was born between 1765
and 1775 in North Carolina. He died between 18 Oct 1827 and 5 Nov 1827 in Hancock
Co,GA. Per Askew (1988):
"James Askew b 1765-1775 NC d between 18 Oct and 5 Nov 1827 Hancock County, GA m Elizabeth Connell b c1782 (1850 census) d c1857 Hancock County, daughter of Jessie Connell and Penelope Owsley.
Hancock County, Inferior Court sitting for Ordinary purposes, Monday, 5 Nov 1827; the last will and testament of James Askew Senior dec'd was produced in court by the executors therein named and the due and legal execution thereof by said testator being sufficiently proved by the evidence of Samuel G. Ransom, James Askew and Mary Culver the subscribing and attesting witnesses thereto, it is ordered that said will be admitted to record."
