176. Ezell STOGNER
(7) was born between 1780 and 1790 in Georgia
or North Carolina. He died on 26 Aug 1848 in Marion Co,MS. During the War of
1812 Ezell Stogner seves as a private in Capt. Robert Quarterman's Company, Second
Regiment (Pray's), Georgia Militia. Ezell also fought in the Creek Indian Campaign.
Ezell Stogner and Martha Pigott were married in Liberty County, Georgia. Their
first child was born in Liberty County and traveled with them, the other Pigotts,
and the Warrens when they left Liberty County, Georgia for Marion County, Mississippi.
Ezell and Martha are found in the Federal Censuses for Mississippi in 1820, 1830,
and 1840 for Marion County. In 1850 Martha heads her household with four of her
children, all in their 20's, still at home. In 1860 Martha is living with her
son Seaborn. Martha is not found in the 1870 census. He was married to Martha
PIGOTT on 23 Nov 1815 in Liberty Co,GA.

John Pigott STOGNER(7) was born about
1817 in Liberty Co,GA. He died in Mar 1885 in prob Pike Co,MS. There is some
mystery concerning John Pigott Stogner and his wife Amanda Conerly. The wedding
certificate lists John Pigott Stogner simply as John Pigott. Amanda lies buried
in Magnolia cemetery under the name of Amanda Pigott Williams, wife of J.C. Williams.
The Williams name is obvious. Amanda married a second time. Yet, why is she listed
in the name of Pigott instead of Stogner? Was John Pigott Stogner in reality
a Pigott, reared by Ezell and Martha? He was born in Liberty County, Georgia
and was the only one of that first generation of the Pigotts who migrated to
Mississippi who could claim Georgian nativity. Throughout the Federal Censuses
of Marion County, he maintains the name of John P. Stogner.
John Pigott Stogner was a farmer and a chairmaker of local reknown and it is
likely he to whom Luke W. Conerly refers to in his book "Pike County, Mississippi."
His death was noted in a Pike County newspaper as "old man John Stogner"
when he died, indicating he was looked upon as being one of the old timers of
the Tylertown area.
Although 43 years of age when the Civil War began, John joined Confederate service,
being a member of Company G, Third Brigade, Second Regular Mississippi Militia.

Seaborn W. STOGNER(7) was born about
1819 in Marion Co,MS. He remained unmarried for most of his life, living with
his widowed mother, Martha. He was at home and present at the death of his father,
Ezell, in 1848.
Although Seaborn was a man in his forties when he first decided to try matrimony,
he reportedly married twice. The first time was to Mary Ryals and the second
to Polly Hines, daughter of Enoch Hines and Susan Guy Hines (she the daughter
of Jesse Guy). Hines was born ca 1783 in North Carolina. Polly Hines is said
to have married first a McCain and had three sons by that marriage.
Seaborn also was probably a veteran of Confederate service as two Seaborn Stogners
are found on military rolls. Since his brothers were in Company G, Third Brigade
of the Third Regular Mississippi Militia, the Seaborn Stogner found on their
rolls was probably this Seaborn.
