Our Story

Our Family

WILLIAMS

Williams is a very common name in Wales and here in America too!

Making it a challenge to trace our roots. We are lucky to have had a family member to have done most of the work  for us.

Merthyr Tydfil was a small town in Glamorgan, South Wales. Most of the families made there living working the land. in and around 1759  the first ironworks came to the town. The town grew to be one of the larges towns in Wales. The greater portion of the population now made there livelihood in the iron and coke works, or in some pursuit connected to it.The ironmasters of the day imported experienced and unskilled workers and there families.  We know very little of our Family befor this point.

We  pick up our Family story and it goes like this, Sometime around 1860-61 Thomas Reese Williams and his wife Jane (Price) moved from Merthyr Tydfil, Wales to America. with them they had there 1st son Howell Price Williams who was born in Wales in 1861.They had a second son Thomas Williams born in Plains Pennsylvania in 1862 having 3 more sons Gomer 1863, William 1869, and David 1875. They settled in Duryea Pennsylvania and built a large home to hold a large family. They came here to work in or escape work in the coal mines? Since then the family has grown and spread around the world. Working in all kinds of jobs, from School Teacher, to Bar Keeper and  including the Armed Services of today. My name is  Mark Howell Williams and I am of the 6th generation of our family in America. And this is my attempt to bring our family a little closer. So check out our pages and spread the news!

A Special Thanks!

Edythe Williams (Hallstone)

Whom years ago as a school project for her daughter had the far sight to Compile and keep our Family Histories, and to keep it up to date even today for all of us to share. So with a bit of help and a little luck we hope this sight grows!
