Biography

I currently know very little about this family, however ...

1785: Elizabeth Ann Knott was the daughter of George and Patience Knott. She was baptised at the parish church in Lenham, Kent. She is the first child of George and Patience to appear in the register and may well have been their eldest child. She had at least 6 brothers and 2 sisters. 1803: Banns were first called for the marriage of Edward Streatfield and Elizabeth Knott on the 24 April 1803 in Elizabeth’s home parish of Lenham. Edward was living in Teynham at this time. The marriage occured at Lenham on the 01 June 1803, with Edward and Elizabeth both making their marks in the register. The witnesses to the marriage were Robert Fullager and Thomas Walker. 1841: The census finds Edward and Elizabeth living in Blue House in the parish of Teynham, close to Teynham Street (HO107/0476/4 District 2 p.6).  Their ages rounded to the nearest 5 years are both given as 60. Edward is an agricultural labourer. Thomas (16) and George (6) are living with them, with all four born in Kent. nb: some online indexes incorrectly list them as being in the Isle of Sheppey. Part of Sheppey is included under HO107/0476 but the folio in which the Streatfields are found is clearly labelled as being Teynham. There is also an Eliza Streatfield, aged 18, a female servant living in School House, Linsted (HO107/474/3 district 4 p21. 1843: Elizabeth Ann, wife of Edward Streatfield, died on the 21 October 1843 from Dropsy.  This was probably some kind of oedema. Her age is given as 58. The death was registered two days after the death by Elizabeth Pope of Linsted [sic]. 1848: Edward Streatfield, aged 70 and a labourer, died on the 24 July 1848 in Bapchild. The cause of death is given as inflammation of the liver, from which he’d suffered for 14 days. The death was reported on the 01 September by Hannah Kennet of Bapchild.
