MY KELLY - DARMODY CONNECTIONS

In my family tree, there are three separate Darmody family's that married
into one Kelly Family.

Andrew Kelly married Ellen Darmody and after her death, married Bridget Darmody; and

Patrick Kelly (Andrew's brother) married Ellen Darmody.

All the surnames were spelt as Darmody after their arrival into Australia, but the surname was spelt Dermody in Ireland.

At this stage, it is unknown whether any of them were related.

Ellen Darmody was born 1816 in County Kilkenny, the daughter of Jeremiah Darmody and Ellen Curtis.

There is one reference to Jeremiah in the Griffiths Valuation

From letters received from her parents and brother in Ireland, it has been established that the family was from Knockenbaum, a townland in Kilmanagh, County Kilkenny.

From these letters it has also been established that Ellen had brothers and sisters that also migrated to Victoria, Australia.  The siblings were; Johanna, Mary, Jeremiah, and Julia - Michael being the brother that wrote the letters from Ireland.

Ellen married Patrick Kelly in 1855 in Tower Hill, Victoria.
They had 10 children;
