Note: There is at least a record of Gerd's birth in Ger. listing his birth date and that he was born in Middels, Ostfriesland, Germany. Gerd married Theda (Tena) Margaretha Siebels on June 28, 1872. They had eight children. When he married, he began farming in the Crescent City area. Gerd and Theda are buried in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetary, Crescent City.

Obituary
Aged Milford Man Called in Death
Last rites for George Wessels, 83, were conducted from the home west of Milford at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon by the Rev. R. Reichen, pastor of the Schwer church, followed by Sour in the Lutheran cemetery, south of Crescent City.
Mr. Wessels died Thursday of last week after an illness of the past several years. He had been bedfast for two months.
He was a native of Ger. having come to this country as a young man. His wife died about 18 months ago. Surviving are four daughters and four sons: Mrs. Lena Luke, Mrs. Anna McKee and Mrs. Tillie Miller of Milford, Miss Minnie Wessels at home, John, William and Harry Wessels of Crescent City and Fred Wessels of Urbana.
Gerd Wessels, who died August 2 at his home in Crescent township leaves an estate of $25,000 in real estate and $2,000 in personal property to his children.
John Wessels will receive the west half of the northwest quarter of section 27, township 26, range 13 west, subject to the payment of $2,000 to a sister, Minnie Wessels.
Fred Wessels will receive the northeast quarter of the northeast quarter of section 28 and the southwest quarter of the southwest quarter of section 22, township 26, range 13 west, subject to the payment of $1,00 to a sister, Mrs. Anna McKee.
To Willy Wessels he leaves the east half of the northwest quarter of section 27, township 26, range 13 west subect to the payment of 1.000 to Mrs. Lena Luke.
Harry Wessels will receive the I south half of the northeast quarter west, subject to the payment of $1,000 of section 28, township 26, range 13 to Lena Luke, $1,500 t
Tilly Mueller and $100 to Sena Lubben. The above I payments are to be made within five' years.
The remainder of the estate will go to Minnie Wessels.
The will also states that a note signed with H. A. McKee on March 1, 1923 payable to Clel Black shall be charged against the bequest to Anna McKee. A note of $2,440 which Mr. Wessels signed and Paid for H. A. McKee on March 29, 1924 shall be charged against Mrs. McKee. Another for $1,900 signed January 1, 1928 with Fred A. Mueller in favor of Anna C. Smith shall be charged against the bequest of Tilly Mueller and a loan of $275 to Fred A. Mueller.

Biography of Gerd (George) Wessels
Gerd Wessels, a representative farmer of Crescent township residing on section 27 claims
Ge? as land of his birth.
He was born in the county of Aurich, town of Middles, Hanover, Ger. on 18th of April 1851 and was the son of Friedrich Wessels who was also a native of the same locality. His Father was a mechanic and worked in a brick yard and also followed farming. The Mother's maiden name of Gesche Reinholz, she was born in Hanover in 1823.
Mr. Wessels emigrated with his family to the new world and made his first location in Washington, Tazewell county, llinois USA. He then came to Iroquois county locating in Ashkum Township where he spent two years, then moved to Crescent City, Illinois USA.
Gerd attended schools of his native land and for two years was a student in an English school. He remained at home until 19 years of age, when with his family emigrated to America.
On the 29th of June 1872, he was married to Miss Thede Margaret Siebels, a native of Hanover, Ger.. A daughter of David Seibels, when 16 with her father emigrated to America and settled first in Woodford county.
After Gerd rented land and engaged in farming operations for nine years, when having accumulated some property, he purchased an eighty-acre farm. He built a residence, good barns and other necessary outbuildings and made many excellent improvements. He later purchased another 40 acres adjoining his property. We see in Gerd a self-made man, who started out in life with no capital, saved as a young man's bright hopes of fortune and determination to secede. However, he steadily worked his way upwards and by his industry, perseverance and good management has acquired a comfortable property and is now numbered amount well-to-do farmers of Crescent City

MRS. LUBEN DIES MONDAY
Wife of prominent Farmer succumbs to cerebral hemorrhage
After months of suffering, and finally as the result of a cerebral hemorrhage. Mrs. William Luben, wife of one of Crescent Township's most prosperous farmers, died at her home near Prairie Center school west of Woodland, at 3 o'clock, Monday morning, November 8.
The funeral took place this (Wednesday) afternoon. At 12:30 o'clock a short service was held at the Luben home, and at 1:00 o'clock there was a regular funeral service at the Schwer church, Rev. Progey officiating. Interment was made at the Woodland cemetery.
Gesena Fredricka Wessels, daughter of George and Theda Wessels, was born February 16, 1874 on a farm in Ash Grove Township. In that vicinity she grew to womanhood and thirty-four years ago at Schwer church, she was united in marriage to William Luben, a young farmer. The couple went to housekeeping on a farm in Crescent township. By industry and thrift they prospered and twenty-three year ago purchased the farm west of Woodland, which has since been their home.
One child, Mrs. Emma Tascher, was born to them, who, with the bereaved husband, are left to mourn the loss of a faithful wife and a devoted mother. Other surviving relatives are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Wessels of Ashkum township; four brothers, John, Will and Harry Wessels, all Crescent township farmers, and Fred Wesssels, of Urbana; four sisters, Mrs H. A. McKee and Mrs. C. B. Luke. of Milford, Miss Minnie Wessels, of Crescent township, and Mrs. Fred Miller of Ash Grove township; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Luben, as are her parents, was a Lutheran. At the age of 14, she was confirmed at the German Lutheran church at Schwer, and throughout her life, she endeavored to be true to the vows she took that day.
Her's was the quiet, unassuming busy life of an ideal helpmeet of an industrious prosperous and progressive farmer. She loved her home and there here interested rested. Her reward is not only the deep affection of her family, but the high esteem of all who knew her.

Mrs. Anna McKee, 88. Passes Away Sunday Evenig at Saginaw, Mich.
Funeral rites for Mrs. Anna McKee, a former resident of were conducted at 2:00 P.M. today at Our Savior Lutheran Church, with Pastor, the Rev. Charles Knauft, officiating. Her death at 6:30 P.M. Sunday (May 9, 1955) occurred at Saginaw, Mich., at the home of a daughter, Mrs Joseph Peschel, where she made her home the last several months. Sour was made in Maple grove cemetery with the Jameson Funeral home in charge.
Mrs. Joyce Neal, organist for the service, furnished accompaniment for the soloists, Mrs. Robert Hasselbring and Mrs. Harry Rethelford, who sang two hymns, "Rock of Ages" and "Oh, What a Friend We Have in Jesus."
Pallbearers were: W. R. Luke, Ralph David, Lowell Wessels,
Randolph Wessels, Wendell Wessels and Frederick Mueller.
Mrs. McKee was born July 27, 1876 in Crescent township, the daughter of George and Theda Seibelts Wessels. Her marriage was with Harrison McKee and the couple at one time made their home in Milford where Mr. McKee was employed as road supervisor. They later moved to Gary, Ind., where Mr. McKee died on September 9, 1963. Mrs. McKee was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Milford.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Peschel, Mrs. Earl Bullus of Gary and Mrs. Wallace Wilkening of Waupaka, WI., a son, W. G. McKee of Lancing, llinois USA; three grandchildren; three brothers and a sister. Mrs. McKee was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.

John Wessels, 64 Lifelong Resident Crescent Twp. Dies
John Wessels, 64 of RR#3, Watseka, died about Monday midnight at Iroquois hospital where he was admitted may 3 after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage
Born February 19, 1884 in Crescent City township, He was a son of the late George and Theda Siebelts Wessels and married at Woodworth on January 6, 1921 to Sophie Boyer.
Surviving are his wife. A son, Lowell A, Of Watseka: two daughter, Mrs Marion E. Wall of Crescent City and Mrs Lorraine J. Meents of Ashkum; A granddaughter, seven grandsons: three sisters, Mrs Anna McKee of Walkerton, Ind., Miss Minnie Wessels and Mrs. Lena Luke, both of Milford; and three brothers, Fred of Urbana, and William H. and Harry, both of Watseka.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Sena Lubben and Mrs. Mathilda Mueller.
A lifetime Crescent township resident, he attended rural schools. He was an active member of the St. Peter Lutheran church at Crescent City and served six years, on the church board.
Friends may call at the Segur funeral home in Watseka from after noon Wednesday until Thursday at 1 p.m. when the body, will be taken to the Crescent City church. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the church, the-Rev. Robert Spenn, pastor, officiating. Sour will be in the church cemetery.

Mr., Mrs. Fred Wessels Celebrate
Their Golden Wedding Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wessels, 708 S. Broadway, Urbana, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary over the weekend.
The couple was married Dec 5,1909, in Milford. Mrs. Wessels. is the former Emma Rapp, daughter of the late Charles Rapps. Mr. Wessels is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Wessels.
Their children include Mrs. Edward J. Langhoff, Lansing; Mrs. Merle McGahey, Los Angeles, Calif.; Wendell Wessels, Champaign; and Russell Wessels, Whitewater, Wis.
They have seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The entire family with the exception of two grandchildren was present Saturday evening at a spaghetti dinner at the home of Wendell Vessels, 803 W. Vine.
Sunday morning they attended the Trinity Lutheran Church together.
The anniversary dinner was at the Urbana-Lincoln-Motor Inn in the Hunt Room.

Mrs. Geo. Wessels
Dies After 60 Years
In Crescent Township
Mrs. Theda Margaret Wessels died at the family home in Crescent township, Monday, lacking only two days of being 80 years old. She had lived with her husband 60 years of married life most of which was spent in Crescent township.
Mrs. Wessels was a native of Ger. and came to this country at the age of 16. The family is one of the best known in the neighborhood.
Of their nine children, eight, with the husband, survive, as follows: Mrs. Anna McKee, Milford; Miss Lillie Wessels, at home; Mrs. C. V. Luke, Milford; John William and Harry, all living near the home place; Fred Wessels, of Urbana, and Mrs. Matilda Mueller, of Ash Grove township.
She also leaves a granddaughter, Mrs. Odle Tascher of Watseka, whose mother, Mrs. Gesena Wessels Lubben, died about five years ago.
Funeral services will be held at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the home and at 2 o'clock at the German Lutheran church at Crescent City by Rev. C. Helmreich. Sour will be in a cemetery near Crescent City.

TASCHER SERVICE
Are Held Monday
Funeral services for Odel H. Tascher, 60, of Watseka, a brother to Mrs. Pearl Stauter of Gilman, were held Monday afternoon at the First Methodist church in Watseka. The Rev Earnest H. Duling officiated and Sour was in Body Cemetery.
Mr. Tascher died Friday, after a several years' illness.
He was born Dec 14, 1892 near Crescent City, the son of Charles and Mary Leverenz Tascher. He was married to Emma J. Lubben on Nov. 3, 1919 at Schwer. He attended school at Crescent City and Onarga Seminary. He was employed as agent of the T. P. & W railroad at the Watseka depot until his retirement in 1950 because of ill health. He served in World war I, and a member of the Watseka American Legion, the B.P.O.E. lodge at Watseka and the American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife; a sister, Mrs Pearl Stauter; two nieces and one nephew; Mrs Carl A. Anderson of Danforth, Mrs. Thomas Howard of Freport, and Charles Tascher of Gilman.

Emma J. Tascher, 85, of 711 south second Street, watseka, died at 9:06a.m. Monday at her home Oct. 3, 1977.
She was boin at Crescent City on June 21, 1892, the daughter of William and Gesena (Wessels) Lubben and married Odel Tascher at Schwer on November 3, 1919. He died November 21, 1953.
She is survived bynieces and nephews.
Mrs. Tascher was a member of the United Methodist Church of Watseka.
Funeral services will he conducted. at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Segur Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka with the Rev. Hubert Lytle officiating.
Sour will be in the Body Cemetery and visitation will be after 2:00p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Florence was born on May 13, 1908 in Milford, llinois USA. She was born into God's family
through Holy Baptism on June 14, 1908, and was confirmed into her f aith on
July 20, 1924. She was united in marriage to Earl Bullus on October 28, 1939
Florence was a former resident of Gary Indiana, but had lived in Eagle River for
32 years. She was an active member of the Eagle River Memorial Hospit
Auxiliary (many years), the thrift shop (30 years), A volunteer at the Eagle River
Nursing Home When they held Tuesday bingo. She was a member of the
Martha Society, Our Savior Quilters, who made quilts for Lutheran World Relief,
and a member of the Altar Society. She also made lap robes for cancer patients
That were given out by Angel on My Shoulder. She and her husband, Earl, Were
also members of the 50/50 Club in the Eagle River.
Florence was called home to the Lord on November 13, 2002 in Phelps, Wi.

Harry Wessels dies; services set February 7
Harry Wessels, 77, of 227 East Oak street, Watseka, died Tuesday, February 4, at 8:55 p.m. at Iroquois Memorial Hospital here.
A lifelong resident of Crescent City-- Watseka area he was born in Crescent township July 7, 1887, to George and Theda Siboldt Wessels. He was married May 26,1926 to Marie Sobkoviak who died December 4, 1966. In 1973 he married Ada Duggan who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Russell (Lois) Hockersmith of Homer; two stepdaughters Denise and Jacqueline; and two grandsons.
Visitation from 7 to 9 P.M. Tbursday at the DeValk Funeral Home in Watseka and for one hour prior to the services at 2 p.m. Friday, February 7, at the Faith Lutheran Church here of which he was a member; the pastor, the Rev. Jerry Moe, officiating and Sour, in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery at Crescent City,

W.H. Wesseis dies:
services set Thursday
A prominent Crescent township resident, 81, of RR 3, Watseka died Monday, May 17, at 3:20 a.m. at Iroquois Memorial Hospital here. He had been in failing health several years and hospitalized 10 days.
Born June 28, 1889 in Crescent township, he was a son of Gerd and Thede Siebelts Wessels, and was married January, 10, 1918 at Schwer to the former Emma C. Schaumburg.
Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Carlton Geneva) Bode of Fox River Grove. Ill., and Mrs. Emil (Bernice) Gotsch of Oak Park, Ill., two sons, Randolph of Watseka and Howard of Arcadia, Cal.; 10 grandchildren, six great grandchildren; 4 sister, Mrs. Lena Luke, and a brother, Harry Wessels, both of Milford.
Two brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
A lifelong Crescent Township farmer, Mr. Wessels was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church of Crescent City, was a world War I veteran and a member of Watseka Post 23, The American Legion ; served many years as Crescent Township drainage commissioner and for several years on the Crescent City high school board.
Services set for 2 P.m. Thursday May 20, at the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Crescent City, the Pastor, the Rev. H. J. Knoploh officiating, and Sour in the church cemetery. Visitation from
2 p m Wednesday and until noon Thursday at De Valk Funeral Home in Watseka. Body to lie in state at the Church one hour prior to rites. Graveside military rites set by the Watseka American Legion post.
