| ARNOLD EDWARD BARTELT was born April 4, 1910 in Wausau, WI to Eric and Elsa Bartelt.
Somewhere around 1915, Arnold's parents Eric Bartelt and Elsa
(Heise) moved from Wausau, Marathon County, WI to Nichols, Muscatine County,
IA. Arnold grew up in Muscatine, IA where he was a star athlete in all Sports. In 1927, he helped lead the Muscatine Muskies to the High School State Basketball Championship. On Dec 15, 1933, Arnold married Charlotte Alice Kirchner, who was the daughter of John Kirchner and Lucy Mapes. At the time, Lucy was married to her second husband, Ben Black. Arnold converted to Catholicism when he married Charlotte. In 1935, they moved to Des Moines, IA where Arnold worked for the Iowa Packers and US Post Office. "Arnie" was a man of great wit and was generally liked by all. He lived in Des Moines until his passing. Regretfully, Arnold died of Alzheimers's on February 18, 1984 in Des Moines, IA. Arnold is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bloomington, Muscatine County, IA |
