Reliability

Reliability Issues

I thought I would discuss where this data is coming from and how reliable you should assume it is.

The whole project started about 8-9 years ago after I got both Mikesell books and also had some other data I wanted to access myself to answer emails I was receiving about various Mikesells. So as I relaxed in the evening, I typed data into FTW and merged files from LDS that I would download monthly at the local FHC in the few hours I could spare. I soon found that I had a database that would be useful to others and hopefully save them time. This was my first web site that stay up for several years but had most of the data removed due to server size restrictions after about 3 years. My few hours of spare time disappeared so the web site and my genealogy work somewhat died out.

Well, the kids are done with school (well almost). The nest is empty and I have more relax time in the evening. Online databases are much better now and searching database in the evening is kind of fun.

So.... What are you getting with this data?

I have no spare time to travel or obtain "primary verification" on any of this data except some of my own direct line. All this data is "secondary" data other than an increasing amount of census. Some is from LDS and Ancestry.com these are not by any means perfect. But it gets you a good start and for many people with a casual interest in genealogy, it may be enough to satisfy their needs. For others, I hope it gives you enough "hints" to save you a lot of time and head you in the right direction.

Additional Comments on Associated Families

About 70% of the individuals listed are in "associated families". I have made no attempt to verify the associated family data except to confirm the parents of the spouse as well as I can. All data past that conformation is just attached and I have not made any attempt to verify this data what so ever. Most of the attached GEDs came from LDS or Ancestry.com.

WHAT YOU WILL FIND

As many Mikesell's as I can find and connect to the Mikesell tree. I have not entered "random" Mikesells that I have not been able to link to the present tree.

Related families with the following rules: If after 1900, only the parents of the spouse will be listed. If before 1900, I will list all the information I have, as far back as I know.

I will try to include most descendants for one generation if the surname is not Mikesell.

WHAT YOU WON'T FIND

Personal information on living Mikesell's. I have removed the personal information from all people less than 100 years old if I don't have a date of death.

If you are listed and wish to be removed, please notify me immediately.

If you believe any information is incorrect, please e-mail.

The usual disclaimer

Like all web based activities, it will always be "under construction". The information I'm presenting is NOT just my Mikesell genealogy but will be as complete collection of all Mikesell's I can find. Some come from two Mikesell books. More came from my digging. Most from other places on the Internet, LDS, Ancestry.com and others looking for Mikesell's. As with all genealogy, there will be disagreements between various sources. I then picked the reference I believe.

Lastly, I'm NOT a professional genealogist. The true genealogist would have all this referenced back to the original documentation. I haven't the time and probably lack their skill and patience. It took me almost a year to connect my Mikesell branch to the main Mikesell tree. This web page is an attempt to save others the same frustration
