France; He enlisted in the army in March 1942, and served in the Rhineland, Ardennes, Northern France and Normandy campaigns during WWII. Chester was awarded the Bronze star, Purple Heart, and attained the rank of staff sergeant; he received an honorable discharge June 1945.

Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, Meade Co., South Dakota, USA; Survivors include his wife Leatrice Mills; daughters: Joann Livermont, Dillingham, AK, Brenda Mills, Rapid City, and Geri Schlanger, husband Patrick, Denver, CO, sons: Mark Mills, wife Chris, Rapid City, and John Mills, wife Cherri, Boalsburg, PA, eleven grandchildren: Arthur Livermont, Eli Livermont, Gabrielle Griswold, Alix Anderson, Kelly Mills, Adam Schlanger, Desirae Mills, Mercedes Mills, Aubrey Schlanger, Samantha Mills, Dominic Mills, and three great-grand children.
Chester was preceded in death by his son Arthur Lee Mills who was killed in action in Vietnam, April 1968. Rosary services will be at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 14 at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, Rapid City. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 15 at St. Isaac Jogues. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
The family would like to recognize the staff on G Ward at Fort Meade VA Hospital and the Hospice Program at Rapid City Regional Hospital for their excellent services and heartfelt compassion during the time while he was in their care. Memorial contributions may be made to G Ward or the Hospice Program.
