Adam Keen, of Eden township, died at his residence, near Quarryville, on Thursday evening, at 8 o'clock. His death was not unexpected. Until a year ago he had enjoyed good health and seldom missed a day of work on his farm despite his age, but during the past year he began to fail in health and gradually grew worse with rheumatism and diseases incident to old age. The deceased was 78 years of age. He was a son of the late Henry Keen, who was one of the pioneers of the Lower End, a lime burner, farmer, and businessman, who at the time of his death in 1879 owned several fine farms and was one of the most substantial men in the county. Deceased was educated in the common schools and remaining with his parents until he was 30 years of age. In 1859 he married Mary A. Herr, a daughter of the late John Herr. He has been a farmer all his life, and an active participant in the affairs of his neighborhood, serving with great credit as a school director for about 25 years; and a member of the German Reformed Church, of New Providence, for forty years. In politics, he has always been a Republican, but never a partisan, thoroughly independent acting with the same good judgement in selecting public servants that characterized his business movements.
In fact Ad. Keen, as he was familiarly known, was a man of not only more than ordinary attainments, but of the highest type of character. A plain, unpretentious citizen and rational man, his word was as good as his bond, and he enjoyed perhaps more popularity and warm friendship than most men of his day, by reason of his rugged honesty, strength of character and loyalty to his friends. And he will be sadly missed not only by his immediate family, but in a wide circle of friends.
Deceased is survived by his wife and the following children: William B. Keen, Quarryville, Harry Keen, of Lancaster, and Mrs. William J. Hess, of Quarryville. His funeral will take place on Sunday, at 10 o'clock, at the house, and eleven at the Reformed Church, New Providence, where the services will be held. Interment at the Church graveyard.

Samuel M. Keen, one of Eden township's oldest and most esteemed citizens and farmers, died at his beautiful farm just outside the limits of Quarryville, on Saturday evening about six o'clock. While he has not been able to be around much for the last few weeks his death was unexpected, as he had been quite cheerful during the day, and had eaten a hearty dinner and up to within an hour of his death was talking to his friends.
He was eighty-three years old, and was born and always lived within a stone's throw of his present of his present home, where he has resided for the last fifty years.
He was the son of the late Henry Keen, who was an extensive lime burner and farmer, owning at the time of his death, some thirty years ago, five of the finest farms in the Lower End, as well as a number of other properties. On one of these farms Samuel lived and owned. In early life he was engaged in the lime business with his father, afterwards settling on the farm which he has since attended to until five years ago when he retired, but never entirely quit work, as he was also busy repairing and trimming up. This summer he had been active among his trees and lawn.
He was a man of sterling integrity. His word was as good as his bond. No better neighbor ever lived, and he was a useful citizen. As were almost all all the Keene family he was a consistent member of the Reformed church, a member of St. Paul's at Quarryville. He was the last one of four brothers, David, Adam, and Henry, all of whom have died, within the last few years. His only living sister is Mrs. John Johnson, of Camargo. his wife died five years ago. She was a member of the Garvin family, who were prominent in this county. His only son is Hiram Keen, who is largely engaged in the creamery business in Perry county, and is proprietor to a store in Lansdale. His daughters are: Mrs. Samuel A. Keen, of Mt. Eden, and Miss Grace and Miss Annie, at home.
His funeral will take place on Wednesday morning at ten o'clock from his late home, and interment will be in Quarryville cemetery.

Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit at Zook's Corner
Aldus Miller, Seventy-seven, Lancaster, R5 is Road's Initial Victim
The first fatal accident on the reconstructed portion of new Holland Pike, caused the death of a 77-year-old pedestrian who was struck by an auto while crossing the highway at Zook's Corner at 4:35pm Monday.
The pedestrian, Aldus H. Miller, lancaster R5, died in the operating room at Lancaster General hospital as surgeons were attempting to save his life. Hospital authorities placed the time of death at 6:10pm Monday, less than two hours after he was struck.
Pvt. Kenneth Owens of the State Police said Joseph McCurdy, twenty-four, Oakdale R1, Allegheny County, was released on hius own recognizance following the accident. Police said McCurdy, a Pennsylvania Powere and Light Co. worker, was enroute home when his vehicle struck the man.
Dr. Charles P. Stahr, deputy coroner, said death probably was caused by compund fractures of both lower legs and an injured left chest. He also suffered a laceration above the right eye, a lacerated chin and multiple abrasions.
The accident, police said, was the first reported since local traffic began to use the rebuilt section of the New Holland Pike. The highway has not yet been officially opened to traffic and detour signs remain at both ends of the new stretch of concrete, police said.
Pvt. Owens, who was assisted in the investigation by Pvt Sebestian Nagle, said he learned McCurdy was traveling toward the city when the accident happened. Miller, a retired laboratory worker at the Armstrong Cork Co. was crossing Route 23 at Zook's Corner just North of Eden, and was in the South-bound traffic lane when he was hit.
Police said the man was delivering newspapers at the time.
The force of the collision, police said, threw Miller about 30 feet. Residents in the area summoned city and state police and also called the Lancaster General Hospital. Patrolman Andrew Kauffman of the city police was sent to the scene in the city ambulance, but noting the serious nature of the man's injuries, decided to wait for physicians to remove him to the hospital.
Miller was taken to the hospital in the hospital ambulance. He was given emergency treatment in the receiving ward and then rushed to the operating room where he died.
He was born in Lampeter township, a son of the late John and Mary Zittle Miller and on Nov. 14, 1944 had celebrated his 50th Wedding Anniversary. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Minnie K. Weaver Miller, and these children: Ida W., wife of Fred J. Daum, and Mable W., wife of Guy A. Neel both of Lancaster R5. Aged Man Ends Life By Hanging
Frank Myles Used Handkerchief Which He Attached To Bed-Post; Despondency The Cause
Frank Myles, aged sixty-four years, of Hessdale, Strasburg township, committed suicide last evening about 7:30 o'clock in his bed room. Despondency, due to failing health, is believed to have been the cause. The body was discovered by his brother-in-law, Mr. Miller, with whom he resided. His body was hanging to a bed post, with a handkerchief drawn so tightly about his neck that Deputy Coroner J. Ross Hilebrand and his physician, Dr. W. S. Tinney, of Strasburg, worked some time before securing a release. The handkerchief was not entirely about the neck in a noose. The body was hanging by the chin, but so heavily that strangulation resulted. The discovery was made about 10 minutes after the old man committed the deed. Deputy Coroner Hildebrand decided it was a case of suicide. He is survived by his wife, who was formerly Miss Birdie Miller. Mr. Myles was married twice. He leaves the following children: Albert, Lettie, Mahlon, at home; Emanuel, Holtwood; Ellis, Upland; Frank and John, of Mt. Nebo.
