Last Will and Testament of John Miller
John Miller died November 19th 1878 at 11 o'clock in the afternoon as per affidavit filed. Attest C.H. Fasnacht Dep. Regr.
In the humble hope of Salvation alone through the grace and mercy of God, I John Miller of Conestoga township Lancaster Co. Pa. do make and publish this as my last will & testament.
I direct that a provision of five hundred dollars ($500.) be made for the education of each, and everyone of our children while in their minority, whatever amounts used in this way shall be charged to them respectively, and whatever parts of this sum shall not be used by any of them, may be in case of need, and if funds will warrant it, to be paid to them in cash at the age of twenty one years. All are required to attend at least one full term at an Academy or Normal School, any one, who may remain and labor in the interest of the family, over twenty one years of age shall be paid liberal wages. Should funds be short, but not otherwise, The Kendig property may at any time be sold a small judgement or Mortgage given on the rest.
The Premiums on my life Insurance policies having been always paid by myself, I direct that the proceeds if any, shall be applied to the payment of debts that remain on the property.
For valuable services to to myself and Mother, I give to Barbara Erb a free home in the family during her natural life.
As some of our children are already pretty well up in years, I think it would be best to get a trusty man, at a good salary, until some of the Boys are old enough, to take his place and manage the farm, as from present appearances some of them may be worth more on the farm than any where else. But if it cannot be carried on with pecuniary advantage it must then be rented, on shares, but cannot be sold until the oldest living heir shall have arrived at the age of twenty five years, when the Executorship may be trasfered to the two oldest surviving sons. The property can then be held jointly, divided or sold as the majority of heirs may elect. In case of sale, the widows dower, one-third to remain charged on the property during her natural life or widowhood, and after her death or marriage to be equally divided amongst their heirs.
I give to my wife, Annie, our household and kitchen furniture together with all the money she shall need for her use and comfort, and the support of the family. Horses, cattle and farm implements to be used in interests of the family. The chestnut timber lot to be held for repairs.
I authorize my hereinafter named Executor to use his own Judgement, do the same as though he were doing it for himself, (and with the consent of the heirs keep everything in excellent repair) or if I myself were living, reposing full confidence in his integrity.
I nominate and appoint my friend David H. Miller as the Executor of this my last will and testament.
In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this fifteenth day of February A.D. 1877.
John Miller (seal)
Signed, sealed, declared and published as and for the last will and testament of the aforesaid John Miller in the presence of us.

Will of Christopher Columbus (C. C.) Rote
Lancaster County Courthouse, Lancaster, PA
C.C. Rote: Died January 27th, 1933.
I, C. C. Rote, of Lancaster Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, being of sound and disposing mind, do make and publish this my last will and testament, in manner following:
First: I order all my just debts and funeral expenses to be paid as soon as can be after my decease, and that I buried in Riverview Cemetery at the highest point overlooking Duke Street, and that suitable monument be erected over my grave.
Second: I direct that in the event of the prior death of my wife, the home where we now live and the lot across the street shall be sold by my executor at public sale and the proceeds distributed as hereafter provided in my will. In the event of my dying before my wife, then the house and the lot become here absolutely, and the same will not be part of my estate.
Third: I direct my executor, at my decease, to sell at public sale all of my personal property (except what is in the house which I give to my wife absolutely) and my shop and garage on Duke Street and out of the same to pay my just debts and funeral expenses and erect a suitable monument for myself and my wife, and if any balance remain to invest the same on mortgage in good real estate security and pay the interest semi-annually to my wife, Eva A. Rote, during the term of her natural life.
Fourth: Any money I now have or any insurance payable upon my life, shall be invested and kept invested during the life of my wife by my executor, and the income paid semi-annually to my life, Eva A. Rote, during her natural life.
Fifth: After the death of my wife, Eva A. Rote, I direct my hereinafter named executor, to pay the cost and expenses of her funeral out of my estate, and suitably inscribe the tombstone already erected, and I direct my executor to distribute the net balance of my estate after the payment of all costs and expenses, equally between my eight living children and the children of my deceased son, Harry Rote, or their heirs, the children of any now dead, or that may die before me to take the share which their father or mother would have taken if living, and if any die before me leaving no children, that share or shares to vest in and be distributed to my remaining children. It is my intention that my executor shall act as trustee of the fund during my wifes life, and that he can file an account after my death or after the death of my wife as he sees fit. Any of my children excepting to or making any trouble after my death, shall forfeit all interest to any share in my estate.
Lastly: I nominate, constitute and appoint Edwin M. Gilbert, to be the executor of this my last will and testament.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 12 day of October, 1926.
