Please join us in celebrating our beloved
Meme's life and memory.
Wynema was born Feb. 13, 1921, in Cotton
County, Oklahoma. For most of her adult life,
Wynema was a professional singer and guitarist,
beginning at age 17. During World War II,
she traveled all over the United States as
a USO entertainer.
She later became a model for John Robert
Powers, leading into another career as a
makeup and television artist. She also worked
as a nurse's aide at Duncan Regional Hospital.
Her proudest achievement was her
work as
a genealogist, resulting in two
volumes of
"Hooper Genealogy, a Southern
Branch,"
that she researched and co-compiled
with
her mother, Flora. She was a proud
member
of the Daughters of the American
Revolution.
While careers came and went, the
foundation
of her life was her family.
She is survived by her sister, Laura Ruth
Wakefield of Seattle; her daughter in spirit
(niece), Kim Kommers, also of Seattle; nephews,
Howard and Tony Wakefield of Camarillo, Calif.;
and cousins, Sharleen and Glynis Johns and
Amanda Collier, all of Duncan.
She was preceded in death by her parents,
Flora Hooper Collier and Glenn Strange; and
her beloved sister, Juanita Miller.
