ERATH - Robert J. "Bob" Segura
Sr., 86, of Erath, passed away at 2:17
p.m.
Saturday, July 2, 2005 at his family's
home
in Folsom, La.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated
at 1 p.m.Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at
Our
Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in
Erath,
with the Rev Wayne Duet as the celebrant.Entombment
willfollow in the church mausoleum.

Merle Segura.
Born Feb. 11, 1919, Mr. Segura is the son
of J.M. "Mayo" Segura Sr.
and Edna
LeBlanc Segura. A graduate of Fortier
High
School, in New Orleans, he attended
Loyola
University, on an athletic scholarship,
until
his induction into the U.S.Navy. Following
his discharge from the military he
then received
a B.S. Degree, Masters of Education
and 30
plus hours, from the University of
Southwestern
Louisiana. Mr. Segura was coach and
Principal
at Erath High School, for 32 years,
and was
closely associated with horse racing
in Louisiana
throughout his life. A veteran of World
War
II, he was a member and past commander
of
the Erath American Legion Post 279,
and was
a member of the Knights of Columbus
Fourth
Degree. He was inducted into the Order
of
Living Legends by the Acadian Museum
of Erath.
Some of Mr. Segura's accomplishments
as a
coach include organizing the comprehensive
sports program at Erath High School;
coaching
the Erath High School track team from
the
1953 season through the 1964 season,
during
which his teams won nine consecutive
state
championships in track and field; in
1961
he was recognized for service to youth
of
the State of Louisiana by NORD Meet
of Champions;
in 1961 he received the key to the
City of
New Orleans from Mayor Morrison; and
he was
inducted into the Louisiana Athletic
Hall
of Fame for his accomplishments in
track
and field as a coach and as a participant.Survivors
include his wife, Jean Fournet Segura,
of
Erath; sons, Robert J. "Bob Segura
Jr.,
M.D. and wife, Callie, of New Orleans,
and
Terry Segura, M.D.and wife, Merle,
of New
Orleans; daughters, Liz Vice and husband,
Kirk, of Erath, Janet Sanderson; and
husband,
Dave, of New Orleans; ten grandchildren
and
two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was
preceded
in death by a sister Rena Cobb and
a brother
J.M. �Jim� Mayo Segura Jr.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are
his grandsons,
Terrence Segura, Jennings Segura, Robert
Segura, John Segura, Ian Vice, Kyle
Sanderson
and John Sanderson.
