My Research BrickWalls
Inevitably genealogy research results in coming to a dead end on some paths. It's frustrating when you're generally on a roll and research is going well. There are places in my research that have just not turned up any information, no matter how many late nights I've put in. There are many reasons: sources that are unknown and not accessible on line, sources that are long lost in history, people that have would have known but have since passed on. A big research abyss is the fact that although there are excellent on-line resources, there are also misleading, undocumented resources that tend to pop up again and again. Somebody makes an "assumption" and publishes it to their tree, then it becomes google fodder, others use it without corraboration. And then there are the jokers that mar the "One World Tree" with their warped idea of fun with "genealogists"- one of my earliest research ended with the realization that though research extended back to the 13th century, it had been corrupted with impossibilities- an ancestor born in Maine (America!) in 1350! So, researcher beware- check and double check and find original sources whenever possible. Don't take anything at face value. Here are some of my major frustrations.
