d. 11 July 1963 Hasbrouck Heights, NJ
Clarence Wilson Jones was the youngest and third son of Sheldon and Irene Jones. He was named after his mother's father, Clarence Wilson Yost. Born in West Pittston, Pennsylvania, "Clare" lived most of his childhood at 312 Linden Street and then 217 Delaware Avenue. He was only 9 when his mother died and the family spent the next few years with a string of housekeepers. Clarence was not quite 13 when his father remarried in 1930. His memory of that time, as told to his daughter, was that he wasn't informed of the impending change, but he and Sheldon Jr. were away at summer camp when the marriage occurred and came home to find a new "mother" installed in their home. Clarence graduated from Kingston Township High School and then attended Bucknell University.
Clarence's Family
Clarence married Natalie Schooley Stock on 19 Jun 1943 at Trucksville Methodist Church, Rev. Clayton Hoag officiating. Their only child, a daughter is living; her information is not being revealed. He was a Safety Engineer for Hartford Accident and Indemnity Company. The family was living in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, when, on 11 Jul 1963 Clarence suffered a sudden, fatal heart attack while playing a backyard tennis match, and died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. He was the 4th Jones family member to die in four years. His widow and daughter, moved back to Trucksville, Pa., to live with Natalie's parents.
Memories of Clarence
I often spent childhood summer vacation times with my cousin Abby and remember Uncle Clarence as a warm, funny and cheerful uncle. He always seemed to have a huge smile on his face. I know that Clarence was one of my mother's favorite brothers, and they were closest in age. Here's a picture of Clarence as a boy, holding my mother. Clarence looks the most like his mother Irene of any of the children.
