Elizabeth Eldridge was the first wife of Benjamin Jones. They married on 20 December 1804 in Mt. Holly, Burlington County, NJ. Her parents were Noah Eldridge (1751(6?)-1806? 1793?) and Margaret Haines (daughter of Isaac- 1736-before 1806). The Eldridge's were some of the original settlers of the West Jersey Colony.

Obadiah Eldridge's birth was registered in 1689 in Springside (sic Springfield?), Burlington, New Jersey and his death on 26 Oct 1749 in Springfield), Burlington, New Jersey, USA. His parents were Jonathan Eldridge (born 1661) and Martha Wagstaff, who emigrated from Driffield, Gloucester, England They came to America in 1678-79 aboard the ship "SUCCESS." Other children were James, Jonathan, Thomas and Mary.

Research caveat

The trouble with these early sources is they are not substantiated, and assumptions are made for people with the same names in the same area, when they cannot be proven. Generations get misplaced, dates are inaccurate. So, to be accurate the assumption is that our line of Eldridge's did come to the West Jersey Colony in the early transport ships, but there is no proof.

The Eldridge Litigation

Benjamin lost his dear wife Elizabeth and their only son Noah, now a widower, his deceased wife's family began filing a suit against him for the possible motive of regaining the land given him in Elizabeth's dowry. The suit is described in full at this link.
