The Hess' of Columbia County
Matilda Agnes Jones
b. 10 June 1821 Fishing Creek, PA
d. 11 February 1896 Fishing Creek, PA
Our connection to the Hess family, an "old" Columbia County settler family is through the marriage of Benjamin Jones' daughter Matilda Agnes Jones to Reuben Hess in about 1842.
Reuben Hess was a farmer.
Reuben Hess
b. 1824 Fishing Creek PA
d. before 1870 VanCamp, PA
His family shows up in the 1800 Northumberland (prior to Columbia County), PA as "Hest", possibly of German origin. The first family heads were Conrad, William, George, John. Possibly they were brothers who emigrated together. More research to come.
