The McHenry Family of Fishing Creek

Benjamin McHenryOne of the earliest settler families of Columbia County, the McHenry's entered into a relationship with the Jones' through the marriage of Benjamin's daughter Eliza to Benjamin McHenry. Two Daniel McHenry's appear on the 1810 census, concurrent with Benj's arrival in the area. The Daniel's were Junior and Senior, and the family was fruitful and multiplied throughout the area.

Eliza Jones McHenry was Benjamin and Nancy Jones' fourth child, second daughter.

Benjamin was the son of Elias McHenry and his wife Ellen Edgar. Elias was born in Pennsylvania in 1794, so it's possible that the family was in the country earlier than migrated farther west as the Indian threat grew less toward the end of the 18th century.
