The Davenport genes entered our Keller DNA when Justin Keller took Clara "Almeda" Davenport as his wife on December 8, 1886, close to the end of the Civil War. "Almeda" as she was most known was the second wife of Justin Keller. The Davenport family lived up the road from the Keller homestead. Justin had just lost his first wife, Agnes "Birdie" Devens and their 9 month old child. He and Birdie would have known the Alonzo Davenport family well, as they all could have attended church together and area social events.
Justin and Almeda had 7 children, producing a baby about every 2 years for 16 years! Almeda must have been a sturdy, healthy farmer's wife, to have produced and cared for a large, happy family. They lost only one child, Eleanor.
Clara's parents were Alonzo G. Davenport and Martha Jane Post, both were descended from early Luzerne County settlers. Alonzo's parents were Helan L. Davcnport and Christiana Roberts. Martha's parents were John D. Post and Esther J. Durland. Again, descendants of early, hardy settlers.
