Justin Fuller Keller was born in 1861, an important date in a historical context because it was the start of the Civil War. Hard times were coming, but at least he was too young to fight in the conflict that tore our country apart. FIX THIS Lake Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. He was the 5th son, the 8th of 11 children, born to Aaron and "Lizzie" (Elizabeth Richart) Keller. In the 1860 census, Aaron owned property worth $1,000, making them a fairly successful family of farmers. The Civil War and its aftermath created a huge economic change for many; we'll see what happened to this family of Kellers.
Justin attended school, lived at home and worked on his father's farm up through the 1880 census. His first marriage was to Agnes "Birdie" Devens. Birdie gave birth to one child, who lived only 9 months, and then she herself died, possibly in childbirth of their next child. Justin, a young widower at 25, then married Clara "Almeda" Davenport 8 December 1886. Clara "Almeda" Davenport was my great-grandmother, wife of Justin Fuller Keller, always known as "Jut". She had spent her child living just up the road in Weintz, and also lived near Agnes Devens' family.
