My Army Service:
1965 - October; Started my training with 12 Training Regiment - Royal Corps of Transport, at Buller Barracks Aldershot, Hants and then in December of the same year we went to Houndstone Camp, Yeovil, Somerset to undergo driver training where I eventually passed my driving test in an Austin K9 in March 1966.
Our starting wage was 8 Guineans a week with free accommodation and free meals.
1966 - April; First posting abroad was to 17 Sqn RCT., St. Davids Barracks, Hilden Dusseldorf. West Germany. We were in support of the 34th Light Air Defence Regiment Royal Artillary.
1967 - I went with the squadron to West Berlin., where we were based at Spandau Barracks with 62 Squadron RCT for 10 weeks.
1967 - December - 17 Sqn RCT, was relocated to Deverall Barracks, Ripon in Nth Yorkshire. Returned to Ripon (due to defence cuts in BAOR).
1970 - 27th March 1970 we were posted to Sharjah, in the United Arab Emirates (Middle East) for 9 months. Returned back to Ripon, Yorkshire on 16 December 1970.
1973 - 3th Jan to 6th July; I was with 'B' Troop, 38 Sqn RCT (Main) UNCYP Nicosia, Cyprus, and from there we were relocated to 38 Squadron RCT, BFPO 34 (Mulheim an de Rhur), West Germany until August
1974 - 5th September - Did a one week Pre-release course in Motor Mechanics in Catterick Garrison.
