Burglary and Felony
At Maryborough affizes. Martin Brennan, Terance and
Thomas Kinfhelagh, (three more of that infamous gang
called White-Boys) were capitally convicted of
burglary and felony committed in the house of James
Nowlan and brothers of Ballickmoyler in the Queen’s
county, and received fentence of death accordingly.
The apprehending and convicting those villains, was
entirely owing to the activity of Edward Cooper, of
Cooper-hill, Efq; for which he has justly received
the public thanks of the high fheriffs and grand
juries of the county of Carlow and Queen’s county.

Daring Conduct of thee Whitefeet
In consequence of information lodged with Capt.
Wright, that a party of the above deluded creatures
intended to attack the house of a man named Keating,
who resides on the townland of Newcastle, near
Arles, in the Queen’s County, he ordered a
detachment of the police from the Ballickmoyler
station on Wednesday night to the residence of
Keating. They lay in ambush in a small river adjoin
the house shortly after which they observed the
party arrive, and immediately prepare for an attack
upon the house. The police challenged the party, and
were answered by a regular discharge of musketry on
the part of the Whitefeet; the police returned the
fire, and it is supposed with some effect, although
they, except one who is in custody, escaped. There
is little doubt but some were wounded, although no
trace could be discovered of the retreating party.

Aggravated Assault.
Last week an industrious farmer named Simmonds, a
tenant of J.J. Marshall, of Berringdale, Esq., was
waylaid on his way home to Ballickmoyler, from this
town, and beaten by several persons until they
supposed him dead. He was taken home in a state of
insensibility, and was in a most dangerous condition
for some days. He is however, recovering slowly. The
only reason that can be assigned for this brutal
attack on an inoffensive man is his having voted for
the Conservatives at the Queen’s County elections;
and although unacquainted with the parties who
resorted to to defeat the ends of justice, he is
apprehensive of a future attack, should he possess
the hardihood to prosecute the parties who assaulted
him.
