Private A. N. (also noted as A.M.) Higgins, Company "H", 2nd Regiment, Georgia Infantry. Enlisted Jan 6,1863 at Decatur Georgia by Major Hardee for duration of war. On roll as absent on March 20, 1863,at central hospital. Appears on a register of General Hospital # 9 March 19, 1863.Then transferred to Chimborazo Hospital on same date for debility. Transferred to Ringgold Ga. April 23,1863.Appears on a receipt roll of Bragg Hospital at Ringgold Ga. for the month of July 1863.His occupation is listed as Nurse.He was ordered to this extra duty by Gen. Bragg. Name appears on a receipt for clothing at General hospital #3 at Lynchburg Va. March 21, 1864.
According to a pension commission card at above source dated February 16, 1916, A. N. Higgins enlisted January 6, 1863.On roll as present Dec 1864.
A prisoner of war record shows an A.M. Higgins, an enemy deserter, of above mentioned regiment, was received March 13, 1865, and took the oath of allegiance, March 14,1865, at Bermuda Hundred. According to Confederate records he was transferred to Chattanooga TN after taking oath of allegiance.

Tennessee. Appears on a register of Prisoners of war
(undated), notes he was captured in Campbell Co.
Tennessee, sent to Vicksburg via Cairo on January
14,1863.List his unit a 1st Georgia legion. (Very
possible information from here on is another soldier, a
possible error of copyist at archives) Name appears on
a roll of prisoners sent by the Provost Marshall of
Lexington Ky to Vicksburg for exchange Jan
5,1863,states he was arrested Jan 2,1863 at Danville
Ky. Name appears on a list of prisoners at Camp

Josiah H. Hagan (also listed as Hegens) enlisted as a Private by Captain Butler on August 21,1862 at Pike County, Georgia in Company "H" 44th Georgia Infantry for 3 years or war. Name appears on list of patients at General hospital # 9 at Richmond on October 30,1862,transferred to General Hospital # 18 (formerly Greaner's Hospital) for Rheumatism . Name appears on a clothing receipt dated July 1863 1st Division General Hospital at Camp Winder , Richmond, Va. On July/Aug 1864 roll he is listed as absent wounded (at Charlestown, Va). Name appears on a list of wounded at 2nd Division,9th Army Corp Hospital, Army of the Potomac dated April 2,1865,notes he was wounded at Petersburg, Va with gunshot wound in the left shoulder. Transferred to City Point,Va on April 3,1865.Admitted to U.S.A Hospital Steamer "State of Maine" on April 9,1865.Injury listed as Gunshot wound (minie ball) to lung. He then was sent to Lincoln Hospital Washington D.C. on April 10,1865. (His name
is listed as John G. Hagan) .It states the wound occurred on March 25,1865 at Fort Steadman. A record of death and interment exists under the name of John G. Hagan, Private, Company "H" 44th Georgia Infantry.
It states; That he was single and was from Pike County, Georgia. He was 27 years of age. Died at Lincoln General Hospital on April 23,1865 and was buried on April 24, 1865.

duty as a nurse at hospital July 1861. Name on
register of CSA General Hospital, Charlotte Virginia,
July 12,1863 and furloughed September 10,1863. Name
appears on Morning report of General Hospital Camp
Winder, Richmond Virginia, admitted September 25,1862.
Morning report of above hospital of October 9,1862
notes that he was given a 20 day furlough. On 10th Ga.
roll of Sept/Oct 1864 as AWOL. Same for Nov/Dec. No
further record.

-Extracted Information-

On his application for a Confederate pension, dated February 13, 1889, John R. Higgins states he served as a Private in Company "E" 10th Georgia Infantry of Simm's Brigade. While on duty at the battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on July 2, 1863, he was wounded. His statement on the application states he "was shot in right arm in elbow and also in hand and wrist permanently disabling said arm and wrist and rendering same substantially and essentially useless" .
He stated he has been a resident of the United States since December 21, 1821. He is currently a resident of Forsyth County, Georgia.

Georgia Cavalry). On roll date November 14,1864,is
listed as absent, Prisoner of War ,Middle Tennessee,
October 1, 1863.On roll of POW soldiers at Nashville
Tennessee October 14,1863, and forwarded to Louisville
Kentucky on same date for exchange. States he was
captured October 2,1863 at Sequatchie Valley. On roll
of prisoners discharged October 16,1863 to be sent to
Camp Morton ,Indianapolis, Indiana and is noted to have
died there March 2, 1864 of General debility. Grave is
noted as being at Green Lawn Cemetery,# 818.(see
below)

On Mar/Apr 1862 roll is listed as sick in quarters. It is noted on the Nov/Dec 1862 that he was wounded in the right arm on December 13, 1862 at battle of Fredericksburg, Va. and is on 30 day furlough. On Mar/Apr 1863 roll he is listed as sick in Chimborazzo Hospital # 2 since April 1,1863. On May/Jun 1863 roll it states he is sick in hospital (Camp Winder) at Richmond, Virginia. Transferred to 4t Division General Hospital at Danville Va. Same on Sept/Oct 1863 roll. On Nov/Dec 1863 roll states he is home from hospital on furlough. On roll ending April 30,1864,lists him as AWOL at Gilmer County, Georgia. His name appears on an Oath Of Allegiance to the U.S. Government on April 16, 1864.

He appears present on all rolls until October 14,1864 when his name appears on a list of Rebel Deserters who took the Oath of Allegiance on October 22,1864 and are to remain north of the Ohio River during the war.

John C. Higgins enlisted for the war on June 12, 1861 as a Private in Company "G" of the 9th Regiment Georgia Infantry at Lafayette, Walker County, Georgia. Appears on a roll of Chimborazo Hospital, Richmond, Va dated April 19, 1862 for reason of debilitas, later transferred to 3rd Georgia hospital on April 22, 1862. His name next appears on a casualty list dated July 1, 1862 following being wounded during the seven days battle before Richmond, Va. Present on all other rolls until December 2, 1863 when he was killed while on picket duty. He was a Corporal at the time of his death.

On Nov/Dec 1862 roll listed as absent on special detail at Savannah. Same for Jan/Feb 1863 roll. Transferred in to Engineer Company August 27,1864 by order of Maj. Gen. Jeremy Francis Gilmer, Chief Engineer. No further record.
