2nd Sgt., Co. C, 63rd VA Inf., Enl. 12/30/62 at
Petersburg. Promoted to 2nd Sgt. 7/1/64. Pres. 8/64
muster. "Served to the end of the War." Age 25, 1870
GCC. He was B. in Alleghany Co., NC, ca. 1845. On 1898
Grayson Co. CSA Vets. Roster. Granted pension in
Grayson Co. on 5/22/1908.

Battn. VA Cav., Enl. on 10/28/63 in Abingdon. Died in
service on 2/4/65.

Sgt., Co. C, 63rd VA Inf., Enl. 4/6/62 at Moccasin
Gap. Promoted to 5th Sgt. 5/1/64. WIA 6/22/64 at Mr.
Zion Church. In hosp 8/64 muster. Appears on register
of beneficiaries of the Association for the Relief of
Maimed Soldiers, Richmond, VA. Leg had been amputated
by Surgeon Dunn. Res. Cherry Lane, Alleghany Co., NC.
Age 29, Farm Laborer, 100, 1870 GCC.

4/62, had joined 63d. On 1898 Grayson Co. CSA Vets.

Grayson Militia, Co. C, 63rd VA Inf., Enl. 4/6/62 at
Moccasin Gap, due $50 bounty. Pres. in arrest 10/63.
Detailed as a smallpox nurse 3/5/64. AWOL 9/7-
10/26/63. Taken POW 5/13/64 at Dalton, GA. Sent to
Rock Island 6/14/64. Joined the U.S. Army for frontier
service 10/13/64.

HIGGINS, PRESTON "P.": Co. C, 8th VA Cav., Listed on
the 1898 Grayson Co. CSA Vets Roster. B. 3/2/1841 D.
5/28/1892. Photo of him and his wife, p. 152, Memories
of Grayson. His wife, Silva Stoneman, was a very
attractive lady even by modern standards. He was quite
distinguished. Though not in uniform, this photo was
immediate postwar photo, probably a wedding photo.
