8/3/11	TAMPA, Fla. — Jane S. Campaigne of Tampa, FL, passed away Friday, July 29, 2011. She was born in St. Louis, MO, and lived in Bloomington, IN, Glen Ellyn, IL, Indianapolis, IN, and Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. She moved from Statesboro, GA, to Tampa in 2002. She was a college student affairs professional serving the Greek life community at Indiana University and Georgia Southern University. She was a member of Delta Gamma Fraternity, and she lived her professional life in the consummate Pan-Hellenic spirit. She was also a member of the Episcopal Church and Daughters of the American Revolution. Jane graduated from University High School and held Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Indiana University. She was preceded in death by her father and mother and her brother, John Steinbeck. She is survived by her husband, David Campaigne ('60) of Tampa; a daughter and a son and their spouses; and three grandchildren.
7/11/10	William D. Craftonpassed away on July 2, 2010. Born in Bloomington, Indiana, he was a 1966 graduate of Indiana University School of Journalism. He served in the Armed Forces of the 101 First Airborne Rangers. He is survived by three children, seven grandchildren and four step-grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by a daughter. Bill was a member of the Living Hope Church in Slatington, PA, where he had been living the past 14 years. He was a news director at Channel 12, Indianapolis, South Bend and several other markets. He began writing a blog in 2008 after being told he was terminally ill. He died of Pulmonary Fibrosis.
9/2/07	Janeth Murray Welch writes: "I am happily retired in South Carolina after a career as an Attorney and Non-profit Executive Director in Chicago and Virginia. I still have ties to Bloomington, where my son is on the Faculty at IU and my sister is the City editor of the Herald Times. My interests now are gardening, music and volunteering for a local non-profit that provide emergency assistance."
8/27/07	Thomas Baker Hudson of Indianapolis, IN, died August 27, 2007. Tom’s early life was spent in Bloomington where he graduated from University High School in 1960. He received a degree in Political Science and Spanish from Miami University of Oxford, Ohio, in 1964 where he also was a member of the golf team. After graduation, Tom entered the Naval Educational and Training Center at Newport, RI, where he became an officer and earned the rank of Lieutenant. During the years of his enlistment, 1964-1968, he served on board the U.S.S. Forrestal and served in Vietnam for six months. Upon discharge from the U.S. Navy, Tom moved to Indianapolis, IN. He held positions as the National Product Manager for Stokely Van Camp, Director of International Trade for the State of Indiana under the then Lt. Governor Robert Orr, Director of Advertising for Indiana Business Magazine and most recently as Account Representative for Aztec Resource. As he battled cancer the past seven years, he was able to continue his work from home. His courage, strength through adversity and optimistic outlook will always be an inspiration to others. Tom will be missed and remembered fondly by his family, brother-in-law, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends from University High School, Miami University, the Navy and former business colleagues. Survivors include his daughter and grandson; mother Carol Hudson of Bloomington, IN; and two sisters Marilyn Tribbett (UHS '63) (Jeff) of Lebanon, IN and Julie Hudson of Indianapolis, IN. He was preceded in death by his father, Larry.
6/06/06	LOS ANGELES, Calif. - John Leslie Riester, 64, of Los Angeles, Calif., formerly of Bloomington, died Thursday at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. Survivors include his children, Cheyenne Riester of Santa Cruz, Calif., Joaquin Riester of Mill Valley, Calif.; one sister, Kathleen Riester Rabold of Bloomington; and his stepmother, Ellen Riester of Bloomington, who raised him. Memorial services will be conducted at a later date in Big Sur, Calif.

9/16/05	Ingrid Winther Scobie writes: "This is a great idea. I recently attended my 45th High School Reunion and it was wonderful to see the love and respect that people had for each other. After 30 years in the academic world, the last 20 as a professor of history at Texas Woman's University specializing in American women's history, I retired early to explore a life as an artist. I recently completed an undergraduate degree at the School of Visual Arts, University of North Texas with a focus in watercolor painting. I show and sell my work. But I don't do this full time. I am also a part-time Executive Director of the Visual Arts Society of Texas. I have four children -- NH, NC, and Texas and 5 grandchildren. So I spent time making the circuit! I appreciate the education I received at UHS and the good basis it gave me for future formal education. I also am happy to learn that once we all grew up, we are a pretty great lot of people!

8/18/05	Raymond Schneider writes: "Great web page!! glad to see so many classmates that have pulled together to make a very interesting and informative site. Definately going to be bookmarked! Fortunately I received the upcoming UHS newsletter after someone was able to track down my home address. Wish I had found the website earlier so I could have attended the last reunion in July of this year. Anyway, am doing fine, still working for the Florida Department of Health, doing lots of boating in the Gulf of Mexico and of course dodging the numerous hurricanes. Fortunately, our home was not damaged from Hurricane Charlie last year even though we were only 4 miles from the eye. However, massive destruction all around us. Will try to get some photos together to send. More later, stay in touch. Raymond Schneider

2/08/02	Extracted from an obituary from the January 7, 2003 Bloomington Herald-Times: Howard M. Smith, 59 March 10, 1943--December 24, 2002 Charlotte, NC Howard M. Smith, 59, formerly of Bloomington, died of complications following a liver transplant at Carolina Transplant Center, Charlotte, NC, December 24, 2002. He was a resident of Charlotte and is survived by his wife, a daughter, a son, and a brother (Sid Smith of Bloomington). Howard grew up in Bloomington and graduated from University High School. He earned an undergraduate degree from Purdue University and graduate degrees from Michigan State University and the University of Southern California. At the time of his death, he was the International Marketing Manager for Atotech, a petro-chemical conglomerate. His work was in the field of Electrochemical Plating. Those wishing to make a donation in his memory may make one to the Transplant Center of Carolina Health Care Foundation, 1618 Scott Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28203.

6/09/01	Extracted from an obituary in the Bloomington Herald-Times , Saturday, June 8, 2001: Jane Thomas Boruff Bolinger, 58, of Davison, Mich., formerly of Bloomington, died June 1 at her residence. She was a 1960 graduate of University High School in Bloomington. Survivors include her mother, Elsie Thomas of Bloomington; one son; two daughters; four granddaughters; one grandson; and one brother, Dr. T.J. Thomas of Denton, Texas. Graveside servies will be Thursday morning at Clear Creek Cemetery in Bloomington. There will be no visitation. Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene & Harrell Chapel, in Bloomington is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church in care of the mortuary. Jane was married in the Memorial Chapel of the church. She and a friend were child models for the limestone carving of Jesus and two children, which is a plaque on the chapel wall.

1960 Mini-Reunion

Dave Campaigne writes:

This is the first announcement of our mini class reunion to be held the weekend of March 4th. Lucy Merritt Williams and I are working together to coordinate this event. We’re still in the idea stage at this time so everyone will be on their own for accommodations. However, someone who is a skilled internet shopper may be able to find condominium or other accommodations and send the word out to the group.

Fort Myers will be our destination, and Southwest Airlines flies there so low fares should be available. If fares are considerably lower to Tampa, let me know and I’ll pick you up at the airport. If you want to visit Tampa, you’re welcome to stay with us. Sanibel and Captiva Islands are gorgeous and just off the coast of Ft. Myers. We’re sort of designing the airplane while we fly it across the ocean, but we’re thinking of lunch and dinner on Saturday 3/4 with golf, tennis, and sitting around the pool scheduled between lunch and dinner. Once we start to get a sense of who is coming, we can begin to make other arrangements and plans for Friday and Sunday.
