Knight Freeman standing on

The
then-University School and School of Education building dominated the
corner of South Jordan Avenue at the southern edge of campus in 1959.
The building was constructed in 1938 and received the large addition at
left in 1951. The building was renamed the Wendell W. Wright School of
Education Building in 1979. The School of Education moved to a new
building on East Seventh Street in 1993. The old building, extensively
renovated, reopened in 1995 as the Bess Meshulam Simon Music Library
and Recital Hall.

As
the viewer looks southwest, East Third Street forms a
diagonal from the bottom of the picture to the right edge and crosses
South Jordan Avenue. The south side of East Third has changed
remarkably little since 1959. The lawn of Recital Hall* can be seen on
the northeast corner. The Musical Arts Center would be built north of
Recital Hall, outside the picture edge, in 1971-1972.
