Harford Nov 27th, 1868

Dear Mother,

I received your welcom letter We were all well and going to school. I was glad to hear from you and how you are getting along have you got the house banked would like to be ghere to help you but I cant it will soon be vacation and I hope that we can come home we had a good time.

Thanksgiven was a very stormy day here. It is growing colder. Orland is well you must not work to hard so as to mak yo sick give my love to all but keep some your self so good by from your son.

This is the letter that Ransom sent to his mother. I have transcribed it as he wrote it, the errors are not typos.
My great grandfather, his twin brother, and their younger brother all attended the SOS school in Harford, PA Email to: Sandra

*MJ Williams-Note: Willis L., Wallace R., & Orlando Millard were all admitted to the Soldiers' Orphans School, on Sept. 30, 1867, their home was in Dundaff and all three continued farming when released from the School at the age of 16. Willis and Wallace b: Jan.5, 1854 and Orlando b: Mar. 25, 1856; according to Pennyslvania's Soldiers' Orphan Schools by James Laughery Paul, 1877.
