This is what is left of the "stone house" referred to by many researchers that was built by John and Nancy Jenkins Moberly when they came from SC to Madison Co Ky in late 1790's. It is said
"that they raised all 12 children and both lived and died in this house", per W H Miller's geneology.
It is located on property now owned by Truman Turner family. This historical reference gives Gum
Bottom Rd as the address, but it is easier to access from Crooksville Road across from Viney Fork
Baptist Church.
Harrodsburg Sayings - Thursday December 29, 1892
At noon Saturday, December. 24, 1892, Mrs, Moberly, the centre and near the circumference of whose life had been in this county, passed through the portals of mortality into the �rest which remains for the people of, God." She was the youngest daughter of Beriah Magoffin of Irish birth, and Jane McAfee, daughter of Samuel McAfee, one of the four pioneer brothers who made the first settlement in this state. Mrs. Hannah Moberly, nee Magoffn, was married in her, twentieth year to Hon. Chas. Cunningham, an eminent lawyer who was afterward appointed from this bar to the judicial bench in Louisville. A second time she married Mr. Wm. J. Moberly, of this county, and survived him thirty years. Mrs. Moberly's life has been an open book to our community. Her cordial hand-grasp, her cheerful words and engaging manners will long be remembered by her neighbors. She bore her youth and beauty to the verge of the grave, and the heroic endurance with which she endured the painful ravages of the disease of which she died commanded the admiration of all who knew it. Her funeral services were held in the first Presbyterian church by her pastor, Dr. Goodloe, assisted by Rev, Dr. J.G. Hunter, after which she was laid amongst her people in Spring Hill cemetery.
