Chronological Events -- Compiled by Richard I. Mobley 1206 Deed Patrick de Mobberley Augustine de Brethemete gave half of Mobberley Parish to his brother Patrick for his life. John, son of Augustine was lord of the Moity during the reign of King John, (1199-1216). Raufe (Ralph) was thought to be a son of John. William Mobberley, Lord of Mobberley, County Chester was the son of Raufe and the father of four children, William, John, Richard, and Alice. William was the oldest son and became Sheriff of Cheshire in 1319. He married the daughter of Robert Downes of Chorley, and had children. His son Raufe had no children but is supposed to have had a daughter, Margaret by his "Concubine", Alice Rode. 1320 Death Richard de Modburghley Richard, parson of Mobberley was slain by "Richard, son of Richard De Mobberley" in 1320. His name is on the rector's board in St. Wilfrid's Church, Mobberley. See photos. 1341 Marriage Sir Ralph de Modburlegh "Wilmus de Modgurlegh vince comes cestr. 1341 cepit in us [sic] uxor Matilda Postea Nupt. Jo Dumbile Radus de Modburlegh Miles." 1361 Death Sir Raufe (Ralph) Mobberley The male Mobberley line became extinct with the death of Sir Raufe (Ralph) Mobberley in 1361, leaving only an illegitimate daughter. However, there were certainly other families of the same name in the area, who perhaps descended from remote younger sons or illegitimate sons. 1565 Baptism Margery Mobbeleye Baptized 1565 at Prestbury in Cheshire. 1585 Will Edward Mobberley Edward Mobberley, yeoman, of the hamlet of Norley, made his will. This is too early to be relevant to the search for the emigrant. 1593 Birth Edward Mobberley 1623 Birth William Mobberley 1628 Will George Mobberley George Mobberley, the elder, made by word of mouth, his will. Requested that he be buried with his ancestors in lower Peover Chapel. Mentioned wife, Ellin, and his four children, Ellin, William, John, and George. The son William was away from home, and was not expected to return. Speculation that he was the emigrant. Too early. To have been father of John Mobberley of St. Mary's County, MD, whose will was made in 1683. 1630 Settlement First movement of settlers from VA to MD. No Mobleys mentioned. 1634 Settlement First settlers arrived in MD. 1654 Will John Moberley John Moberley, a yeoman, of Plumbley, Great Budworth, Cheshire, made will. That of his wife, Anne in 1653. John probably was probably a son of George Mobberley, of Plumbley, whose will of 1628 is listed. 1657 Birth John Mobberly he was aged 64 in 1722. He died shortly before 12 February 1728 in Prince Georges County, MD, and was intestate. 1660 Birth William Mobberley Family tradition that William was father of Edward, Sr., and that he emigrated to PA with William Penn and married Penn's Governess, Phoebe Lovejoy. Possibly this is pure fable, perpetuated by Dixon in his Book. The Lovejoy family never heard of the story. 1661 Baptism William Mobberley William, son of Thomas Mobberley, was baptised in 1661. He apparently was not married or buried in the parish, and hence he is a candidate to be the emigrant to America. 1669 Birth Thomas Mobberley 1669 Birth William Mobberley 1676 Rebellion, Nathaniel Bacon in VA. 1683 Will John Moberly On 30 December, 1683 an elder John Moberly made his will in MD. Although he only mentioned his daughter, Margaret, it seems probable that this represented an older generation. Mentions Richard Nenns and his daughter, Margaret Nenns. It is possible that Edward, Sr., was a son of his. 1688 Birth John Mobberly Edward Mobberly was born 13 May, 1696 in All Hallows Parish, Anne Arundel County, MD, the fourth son of John and Ann Mobberly.
