"You may have had some conflict about the dates (of immigration) because
of the reference to August Hovland and 1910. They were back and forth a lot
(Dad was courting you know). We have many written stories of the early days
by Dad. He got a telegram from his father when Dad was working on a sheep ranch
-no it was a letter- Lendes ranch which had to be in South Dakota, south of Gettysburg.
Anyway, Grandpa (H A Hanson) was in Regina, North West Territories, Canada.
He had gone to Canada to look for homesteads for himself and his 6 sons. The
letter contained two sets of homestead filing papers to be sworn before a notary
public. Dad (he was 19 yrs old) borrowed 2 saddle horses and set out to find
his older brother Ellert who was hewing 10" by 14" by 60' timber for
the first bridge over the little Missouri River between Belle Fourche, SD and
Miles City, MT. They went to Camp Crook to file the papers and went back to
work. That was in 1902. They arrived at their Canadian Homestead on May 1,
1903."
