Leslie Harold MOGEN was born on Jan 28, 1928.
He died on May 11, 2002 in Summit, SD. "Bud" was born
on the family farm southwest of Summit. He attended Sunnyside School and Lebanon
Lutheran Church. He graduated from Summit High School. He farmed with his father
prior to serving in the US Army from 1951 to 1953. He trained at Fort Lewis,
WA, Fort Bliss, TX and at the Gerzewski Barracks in Germany. After his discharge,
he farmed southwest of Summit and worked for the US Dept of Agriculture until
1961.
After his marriage to Betty Bastolich, they moved into Summit. They operated
the Crossroads Cafe in Summit and in 1980, he became an editorial assistant at
the Watertown Public Opinion, retiring in 1999. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed
reading, discussing politics and loved his cats.
In 1952, while in the military service, Leslie (Bud) visited KITTEL GROTERUD,
C.K.'s brother in Lyngdal. He described Lyngdal as being a town hall. He recalls
that KITTEL had a mole on his back in the same place as he father, HENRY, and
he himself had. Leslie Harold MOGEN and Betty BASTOLICH were married on Feb
24, 1961. Betty BASTOLICH was born on Nov
24, 1939. Leslie Harold MOGEN and Betty BASTOLICH had the following
