12. Photo Ole Arthur Christoffer (Art) MOGEN was born on Dec 27, 1900 in Blooming Valley Twp, South Dakota. He died on Oct 13, 1995 in McKenzie County North Dakota. He was buried in Good Hope Cemetery, McKenzie County, ND. Quote from Art's obituary: (Art) was raised in a rural setting and attended Blooming Valley Schools. Art had twelve siblings and all but two of them taught school. It was common for Art to have one of his sisters for a teacher. In 1917 Art went to Brookings, SD and took an agricultural short course. Art learned at a very early age what it was to work. A neighbor had a steam thresher and Art was often on the threshing crew to haul bundles. After the threshing season was over the fall plowing would start. Art plowed with horses, sometimes with three horses and a sulky, or five or six horses and a gang plow. On January 1, 1926 Art moved to live with his older brother, Charlie Mogen, who had homesteaded at Charlston, ND. Art worked for Charlie for several years. It was during this time that he began to farm with tractors. In 1931, Art farmed and lived in a shack at the Haaslekaas place. In the fall of 1931, he moved to the Walter Warley farm in Section 8 of Hawkeye Township, which was owned by his brother, Charlie. In 1941 Art purchased this farm from his brother.

On June 27, 1933, Art was united in marriage to Sylvia Wisness. They were married at Sylvia's parents homestead near Keene. They made their home on the Warley farm for over fifty years where they would raise their family of three children, small grains and registered Hereford cattle. In 1936, Art was elected the Hawkeye Township Clerk, a position he held for over 46 years. He also served on the Hawkeye School Board and the election board. Both he and Sylvia were active members of the Keene First Lutheran Church.

Art was a member of the 50 year in the Saddle, Modern Woodmen and a 51 year member of the ND Stockmans Association. He was recognized as the Stockman of the Year in 1989 by the North Dakota Cattle women. Art was pleased to have visited Norway three times.
