Martin F. Sasse, 91, passed away Monday.
Martin W. F. Sasse died at his home Monday after about two weeks' illness of diseases incident to old age. He was nearly 92 years old and had lived on a farm about three miles southeast of Shobonier for 57 years, and had never lived farther than a quarter of a mile away from where he first settled. He was born in Nausaum [sic], Germany, Feb. 7, 1839.
He was married to Miss Louie Ertwieg [sic], on Oct. 6, 1864, in Germany when a young man. They resided there until the fourth child was born and then they listened to the call of friends to come to American in 1873. At a large gathering at their home their golden wedding was celebrated October 6, 1914.
Mr. Sasse's wife and three children have preceded him in death. Those surviving are: Julius of Shobonier; John E. of Dallas, Tex.; Mrs. Charles Fisher, of St. Paul, and Mrs. Emil Schuker [sic], of Augsburg. There also survives seventeen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
The funeral was held at Augsburg Lutheran church, Wednesday, Jan. 1, at one o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. E. F. Richter. Interment was in Augsburg Cemetery.
