Biographical Sketches of Monroe County, New York ResidentsThe History of Rochester and Monroe County New York From the Earliest Historic Times to the Beginning of 1907 by William F. PECK, The Pioneer Publishing Company, New York and Chicago, 1908 is a two volume set which contains a vast selection of biographical sketches of many Monroe County residents. Some of them are well known, others are not. These biographical sketches often contain a large amount of genealogical information: names of spouses, dates and locations of birth, names of children, parents and grandparents as well as some information about the type of work the subject performed during his life, his political and religious affiliations and membership in area organizations. While these sketches are not sourced material, the information was most often obtained from the individual himself or a close family member for those who were deceased. Despite the fact that the information could be considered primary or secondary information, it is still wise to treat these biographies as unproven until sources can be obtained to support the information included in the biographies. Despite the fact that they are un-sourced material, the biographies offer a glimpse into our ancestors lives and provide information that may lead us to discover more about our ancestors. Presented in two volumes, these sketches sometimes included a photo or illustration of the biographical subject. Mr. Peck was the author of several books about Monroe County and it's residents. The indexes listed below are in alphabetical order and for those sketches that have been transcribed, the name is hyperlinked to the pertinent page on the Monroe County GenWeb. Photos of the subjects can be found on this website in the People photo gallery.
