James
Morrisroe, T.D. - b. 8 Apr 1875. Son of John
Morrisroe and
Mary Brennan. Husband
of Delia Noone of Claremorris. Brother of Bishop Patrick Morrisroe,
amongst numerous other siblings. James was an
Irish
politician. He was elected to Dáil
Éireann as a Cumann
na nGaedhael Teachta
Dála (TD)
for the Mayo
North
constituency at the 1933
general election.
He
lost his seat at the 1937
general election.
James' parents John and Mary were the proprieters of the bakery in
downtown Charlestown. The family was very active in the
early formation
of Charlestown. James died in 1937 and is buried in Carracastle
cemetery alongside his wife Delia Noone and several other members of
this family.

Peter
Morrisroe of Bockagh -From abt 1900 to 1933
was Douglas Hyde's (1st President of Ireland) chauffeur
and handyman. It was Peter Morrisroe who kept the Ford in
running
order. Ratra (the home of Dr Hyde) was well staffed; the Morrisroes
and Mahons
were in charge. Peter, believed to be this Peter's father,
occupied House #1 in Bockagh, 1a on the 1856 Griffiths Valuation map.

Sergeant
Tomas Morrisroe - "Eglinton street station,
Galway is in charge
of the Galway Squad of the Gardai". Sergeant Morrisroe was a native of
Frenchpark and a brother of An Craoibhinn's chauffeur, Peter.
They were both taught Irish by Dr. Hyde. "Sergeant Morrisroe's
friendship with Dr. Hyde extends back over several years and has been
maintained by personal contact and through correspondence."
